Phemox has talent to talk much while saying nothing and distracting from the real topic (as usual).

Because of that I make it short and will not quote all those (mostly meaningless) stuff. But I would comment on one (because it is wrong and an attack at the community plus myself).
And finally it is totally okay to not grasp his sentences like the following:

Quote:

Actually the community is to blame for the part where they aren't able to get a team together and make and finish games, obviously with a handful of exceptions that's largely the case here. It's not the tools that define how good a game will be, it's the developers, well excuse me for saying this, but you don't seem to grasp that.

To make it clear:
While this community might not tend to build many teams it is not their guilty that there are no (or only few) professionals here and no or only few professional projects / demos. You are not to blame and others are not to blame. Most here ARE simply NO professionals.

The real professionals, the studios, the big teams, decide THEMSELVES what tool they pick up and most of them did NOT pick up this tool.
So we are not guilty of this situation and you CANNOT blame the community for that. Blame the evil pros for choosing UE3 or simply blame the tool-set!

honestly, cant you stop bashing each other, whenever you 2 guys come across the same thread, it ends up in an off-topic flame war against each other...
frank, you could've made your reply completely normal if you left out the quoted part. I'm not blaming either of you, nor am i a moderator that is telling you guys to stop acting like a baby. But i dont want to continue this stupid arguement, you 2 guys; to put it simple... DONT!

thanks,

Yes. Helghast. You are right.

In all those past events I always was the one who stopped it and I ignored Phemox for months to not raise such stupid stuff. I am really sorry for that.

The problem is: he does not ignore my posts and starts to quote them again and again and always starts topics that are off-topic.

I really enjoyed this discussion as it turned out the be constructive. We collected ideas for a demo, good ideas.
Lets just keep it that way.

I am with you. Sorry for disturbing you guys

Sorry, Larry Laffer, no offence intended!
It is simply that principle to 'never build a project on an announced - not yet released and fully debugged - feature'!
I don't work with A 7.08, too. My projects are in A6.314 and A6.60, although I already earned A7.

I think the biggest problem in this community (whatever causes this) is that here are too few people who make some big things. Often they finish their 1 or 2 shaders/scripts/models/textures and then doing something new instead of finishing something really.

So I like that room techdemo really much( somehow as the old "techdemo", huh?). So why can't make everyone a little room that shows the lighing or the physic or some shaders etc. That is no a too big job and it shouldn't fail because of the motivation to finish it.

Why not give the task of doing a room to a single person or a little group (eg. programmer + artists) and then later put their work together to a full working techdemo.(Because we all agree that this is the most important thing GS needs now)

sheeesh topic was "3dgs demos" not "tell us your sincerest dreams"
but as the multiplayer capabilities are part of the 3dgs package and listed as a main feature on the conitec website, i guess a small multiplayer demo (chat and walk around) is more or less mantadory if you want to provide a complete feature showcase.

example rooms are only a benefit if they show something new.
lets face the fact that 3dgs has nothing worth showing in such a showcase (nor does any other low end engine has). so i dont see the point of that.

having finished projects is the only thing 3dgs would benefit from. it shows that it can help indies to create games. this can range from crappy small games to up to date ones as long as they are finished.

make a portfolio room (the one we have now is a joke imho) that showcases finished games. thats the best advert. you can get for no money.

staring into rooms with outdated shader effects, none existent shadowmapping or hardly to master physique engine is a waste of time.
nobody will drop from his seat if he see´s 4 layer multitextures or bumpmaps or a cartoon shader... the wiki is enough for that.

what demo i would like to see?
NONE! I am sick of demos. Time for some games if you ask me.

cheers
