it is incredible indeed. wow, very nice feelig, lighting, texture work. ground plants look awkward though, but that's an enginedemo, so i'm imressed by the amount of plants it can render.
i checked their realtime lighting demo as well. without lights 600fps, 1 light 250, 2>90, 3>60 ... down to 24 for all lights. still playable, but improvable considering my system (athlon 64 opteron dual core, 2 gig ram, geforce 7600gt)

I checked the tropical island demo on several machines and it scales very good. On my slower machine Radeon 9500 (one of the first Shader 2.0 cards) it still runs fast. They automatically render it with lower resolution textures and some models are not visible. But there is no speed difference between new and old pc.

While they certainly want to create an editor for the PC, one does not currently exist and, in fact, one is not being worked on either. So it will be quite some time before anyone is able to develop ON the PC for Unity. If you have a Mac then you can develop using Unity and make cross-platform games with it.
There are a few options here if you don't have a Mac: 1) Buy one of the new Macs on Intel hardware and then install both Leopard and XP/Vista or 2) do some research on installing Leopard on your current Intel PC (yep, there are some ways to do it but, be careful, not every way is legal).

You can build what is referred to as a "Hackintosh" ... this is basically a PC with hardware that is compatible with the Mac OS that runs on Intel based hardware. Depending on the PC you have, you may not need to do much work to "convert" you computer over to one that will run legal versions of both XP/Vista and Leopard.
