Onyx Engin3 (tm)

Hello. This is a screenshot taken from a early test of my upcoming shader engine: 'Onyx Engin3' (tm). Onyx adds several state of the art rendering techniques found in such high end rendering software as 3ds max and Maya. Onyx will be free with all versions of Gamestudio except for use in published products. This image is about 6 months old, at this time i would not like to release recent images as to protect the engine's unique structure. Onyx Engin3 (tm) will also feature per-pixel realtime shader effects allowing individual pixels to have unique qualities. I will release more features in the near future. -Foxfire, Onyx Software-
Note: some models/textures are from public domain and are now receiving credit.
Onyx,Onyx Engin3,Engin3, and the Onyx logo are trade marks of Onyx Software.

Actually, you can't be using more than 3 GB of ram at a time, Vista only supports up to 3. But even 1.5GB of system usage is a lot.

oh yeah, depending on your configuration, you may only be using 2GB (if you have 2 x 2GB this can occur). This is most likely the problem as 1.5GB is absurd. Just a helpful hint - Mike

DDR2 RAM is installed in pairs, correct? I have 4 slots each holding a GIG of ram. True Vista and XP only support up to 3 gig, this I know. My point is why would an operating system hog up half of it? This is including an Nvidia 7300 GS with 512 video ram.! Its not my system setup either. I may not coding very well but I've been building computers since the 386 era.

Any PC today uses at least 32 bit architecture. that is 2^32 Byte = 2^2 * 2^10 * 2^10 * 2^10 Byte= 4 GB

Yes, but 32bit Windows has several memory limitations (for example a 2GB process limit and all together all applications can´t use more than 3GB or so) which prevent that you can really make use of 4GB. If you want to use more than 2GB then better get the 64bit version.

Okay, wehn did we decide to hijack this forum from foxfire? All points are noted and I apologize fox for changing the subject. Good luck with your engine. Perhaps I will upgrade one day so I can use it.

Incredibly off topic, but:

Actually this is wrong, Windows will use all of the 4Gbs. It however reserves sóme of it for OS (and motherboard?) purposes. You can edit Windows configuration file and set this to zero, then you can almost use the entire 4Gbs. I wouldn't advise doing this however, as there's usually no point in doing that.
