Here's the effect implemented for the "recharging"...

and a new alpha demo (- if still available -) download (22MB, zip)

I really like the concept and look of this game.. Even though there's not much to do in the first demo, i kept playing for a lot of time, trying to visit all those 'unknown' spots on the map and everything...

Pros
----
cool explosions
nice top perspective
cool colored lights
everything's destroyable
map
music's cool

Cons
----
I don't like the space background sky in alpha 2. too low res i guess
when i press on light speed, i get lost real easy, and the map doesn't help at all
the map in alpha 1 sometimes got disoriented and its top wasn't pointing north(didn't see it on alpha 2 though)
explosions kill my fps here (3,4ghz Pentium D, GeForce 7900 GTO, 2gig ram)

Overall, I love it.. Reminds me of a mac game that had me addicted a few years back.. Same perspective (but worse graphics of course), but you could pick up missions from different planets in exchange for money, which you'd use to pimp up your ship. Kinda like Privateer 2, but from top view..

Really loved the first prototype demo, but there is quite a lag when shooting and hitting a structure or asteroid.

Thanx LarryLaffer & Xarthor - kind and helpful answers.

You're right - the demo map is a bit empty (take a look at 'level01.lvl' - you can make more objects your own - it's not too difficult I think (but send me your level if you give it a try cool )).
More to come later.

The explosions are cool but also fps-consuming here - I will have to find an other (better) way.
The background is a skydome with 1024x1024 px, the image from nasa (hubble telescope).
Also just for developement.

Last but not least the music comes from "newgrounds" - meanwhile there will be used a random mp3-player script (free contribution) the user can listen to his own songs.

Some pretty nice inputs there mercuryus, the new effect would make the transition between portals better qua visible effect indeed but somehow I like the older one more ^^

About your comment into the plausible physical movement, I can follow your pov but of course, it still needs to stay abit fun qua gameplay aspect wink wink
I would leave it as it is, it gives a more flexible way of controlling the spaceship smile smile
Btw, great music, it creates a nice space scene atmosphere !!

Cheers
