SpAtak 2D will be a small 2D Space Shooter.

(concept drawing and basic feature list)

Models will be from the generous guys from this community.

Prototype should be (hopefully) ready soon...

Here some early screens of this project.

Currently:

- the basic control system is finished
- the "infinit" world system is set
- the radar/map/orientation system works fine
- the sky system is finished
- the level creation system is ready to test
- the gravitation system is finished
- some animations and effects are ready
- astoroids, planets works
- enemies (with shields) (currently have no KI)
- quest-system is written down
- sounds/music are under construction

C&C are wellcome...

[edit]
The games will be played by small separate chapters - like an episode in STARTRECK. Each level offers an mini-adventure (with some challenges and/or puzzles to solve) - in many, many various galaxies ...

Awesome! looks like one of my earlier space shooter attempts... but better laugh
I had such a map as well, but it was a few years ago with an old c-script, so I was pretty limited ( very old website screens ). Yours look really promising already smile and somehow I like the concept art image ^^. Looks like how I usually draw my ideas on paper laugh . Fun fun.

If you want to have a nice animating sun, I have done some research a while ago about how to make a neat star with sprites (IMO, that is laugh ). Plus that I have some maths about how to simulate gravity for planets. Can both be found in my old gravball game. It's 2d, but it can also be modifed for 3d smile . When you need some info/samples/ideas, feel free to contact me ^^. I'd be glad to help.

Hint: be sure to make space full of objects so it doesn't get boring to fly from one point to the other ^^. Can also be pretty colorfull backgrounds, as long as there is something nice to watch wink .

Nice concept for a retro style game mercuryus smile smile
I like the idea of inputting a puzzle/adventure element thus this will definitly spice up the gameplay since mostly you always get the same missions (shoot this, collect that,...) on these kind of games and with the input of your element, this is pretty
much avoided wink wink
Keep on going.

Cheers

Thanx Joozey & frazzle for your kind words...

...and here's the first playable alpha demo.
Not much more than an asteroid-clone but you get the first impression about the gameplay.
Your mission: save the basis station from the asteroid shower - you just have 1000 shoots

Please post or PM C&C and problems...

-> please look for DOWNLOAD in a more current post

Nice effect indeed, I hope you can somehow integrate this into your current project smile smile
About the project itself, the controls are nice and smooth which is a must for theses kind of games.
The 'physics' are correct as well when looking at the glide motion in open space. But I especially like the explosion effect, very plausible wink wink

Cheers

One thing I'm not really happy with.
On the one hand it's "physiacaly correct" but somhow it's too unhandy?
Maybe the ship could follow "more (not only)" it's direction?

What do you think?

PS: the electric arcs are made for e.g. electric fields, portals, for "recharging" simulation and maybe for a tracking beam.
