if you want a "blog" website then use this:

http://wordpress.org/

it has support for multiple html pages to integrate into it as well as members and more. it's a pretty helpful tool.

again as i said , if you are using this site to try and get work creating sites etc. you don't want to be using template systems or page generators as it looks unprosseional

When doing professional work, I believe you should use the tools at your disposal, there is a reason editors were made, to speed up design, I can go into source view at any time and edit what i need to in code (thats how i put the php newsreel on the right in) its like saying use paint instead of photoshop or gimp, if you can do the same job faster in one tool, use that tool.

Why does everbody think just because he cobbled some php scripts and html sites together, that he can be a web programmer?
Programming is more than just bad-style coding.

I don't have a homepage, for god's sake!

i must agree. i've seen some of the worst pages here that claim to come from a web programmer. and i don't want to start talking about design, folks...

I agree, also i didn't say editors were bad, i said code generators they wern't designed to speed up coding they were designed for people who can't code to make a website.

Any proffesional site offering website creation will not be using template systems or code generators.

I never use templates, unless its a cms for something that Im doing for free work which I dont really car about. I honestly dont understand what the issue everyone has with tables. For small projects they are perfect. If I need a page with dynamically filling floating nave bars and more than some simple boxs, I use css, if there is nothing else to my site, then tell me, what is the point of wasting time using css for it? BTW apparently there is a lot of sites then that are "professional" that are not really, take for example : http://gameinstitute.com/
they use tables to seperate everything. It's amusing that those who have never seen the full work i can do think they have the right to make statements like

and as far as code generators, thats not the issue, you can get a basic style laid a out a lot quicker if you use a wysiwyg editor, then work with the script there, much more efficient, not necessarily for those who cant code. I can gaurentee, that the general professional web design community still uses wysiwy editors for the design part of it. It would be ineffective to not. Or are you saying that everything should be done in code? That is slow as hell and not any different then just using an editor. So no code generators are not just for those who can't program.

I agree on the point that it may be handy for small sites, but if you have more large scale projects it's far better to use other techniques than tables. Layouts based on divs are way more flexible and scalable then those based on tables.

As far as code generators go, there are some good ones, but generally they produce code which isn't really clean or well built.

So, you're better off learning to code with divs then to use standard tables and WYSIWYG code generators, because they will be used way less in the future.

BASIC programmers never die, they GOSUB and don't RETURN.

to make a good website, all you need is mousepad(notepad) and xampp. there is, to my knowledge, no editor out there that produces clean css-layout-based code.

there is nothing wrong with open source cms. in fact, professional companies gathered around frameworks like typo3, joomla etc. who customize them and tailor them to the customer's needs.
there is no real need to write a mail() function from scratch every time. so it's nothing wrong with using a framework/cms for such tasks. but if you can't code a good design and layout (needn't be pretty, but clean and well-structured), i won't dare to have a look at your php code..

I do use <divs> and css for larger scale projects, keep in mind this site, i made the basic layout in around 10 min, and then just filled in the content for each of the pages. If I had a more advanced page, I'd use more advanced technique. But anything past what I did for this would've been useless extra work. I do agree about the larger projects tho.
