May 2008 Phys Rev Focus: "Piecing a Virus Together"

Quote:
[...]May Physical Review E researchers report that capsid structures from many virus families can be constructed using just a single shape, a trapezoid. Their analysis provides an explanation for this common structure based purely on geometry and topology, suggesting that mathematics could be the driving force behind capsid design and evolution.

This is one of the strongest prove in favour of the evolutionism
This topic had been arisen by Darwin himself
Creationists claimed that a bee hive is a so perfect structure that you need an intelligent designer
Darwin with the help of a mathematician demostrated that a bee hive can be built just applying some extremely simple rules which bee can have learnt by chance
The same for the virus and their capsid made of proteins

For those who are interested in Bio and mathematics I would suggest the books

" Life's other secret " by Ian Stewart

and the

" The Jungle of Randommnes " by Ivars Peterson

The former is focus on evolutionism and mathematics

The latter is focus on mathematics only but it provides also a detailed description of the studies mentioned by fastline59 about virus their capsid and proteins
