The Sckratch Magazine IG(independent game) showcase is a contest in which you submit your game and we judge and decide who has the best game project.

our judging criteria are:

Graphics - not the most importat thing

mechanics

story - if present
-if story is not present then we will judge by game premise(is the premise of the game fun? like pong. the premise is to hit a ball and score points. though it is simple it is fun.)

interesting character design

model and texture quality - also no the most important thing

All entries must be made by june 23 2008. judging will take place over the course of 1 week. Then a poll will be posted in the forum to allow users of the forum to judge.

Judging will be 65% judging panel 35% forum poll.

the winner will earn a spot in the next issue of Sckratch Magazine( not the issue coming out this month).

We hope to hear from you all.

Excuse me if I missed the part where you explain why one would send you (within a rather short period of time) a game just to appear in some magazine, which like no one reads anyway? I think a developer can gain a much better feedback by posting some screenshots or demos in the according forums, where more people will see it than in your magazine, than by sending their game to you to playtest. It would be something else if you had a well established print magazine or a website with thousands of visitors a day. But like this there is no real point in this competition other than to satisfy someone's I-want-to-be-the-winner need. Just my opinion though...

i find that to be a personal attack. basically what you just told me is. "you ammount to nothing. no one cares about your stupid magazine, so stop trying to do things for the community." yes the time period was very short we under estimated alot on that point, i will give you that. but the way you stated your response was highly uncalled for. sometimes its best to keep your opinion to yourself. this is a small contest. we only meant to plant a seed and hope that it would grow over time. similar to E3. E3 began very small, but over time it grew into this huge event. we could care less if we only get 3 entries, then we'll just choose from those three and judge from there. we never intended for this contest to be a HUGE deal.
and also this contest was a way for us to bring more visitors to our website and to get more people to read our magazine when it comes out.
i never would have percieved that someone in the community would just shoot someone down like. its just a small contest. at the moment its purely for fun. and to pacify the I-want-to-be-the-winner need. hardly anything more. im positive that in the future, if there arent others like you who only want to shoot down the aspirations of others, that this contest will grow and become somewhat of a big deal. we work hard to do things. especially since theres so few of us. dont shoot us down because you think our ideas/products/contests arent important. its okay to share your "opinion" but do it in a positive way. please.

EDIT: the date has been changed to august 1st.

I really do not think that MichaelFriedrich meant it as a personal attack. And I think the same about this "contest". And if you want to grow, dont just try to attract the people on these forums but also at other places on the internet.
But at first you should be more professional, your signature for example seems childish and the design of your latest magazine was really bad.

childish?...childish?
I'm sorry i wanted to put a quote that had special meaning to me in my signature. I'm sorry that i take the quote to heart and thought that i should share it. I'm also sorry that my first magazine that i ever made as a 17 year old designer sucked in your opinion. I'm sorry that i cant be professional enough for you, or anyone for that matter. ive seen far worse magazine designs but i still read them because the content is good. "Whats new vol.X" doesnt have a SPECTACULAR design, but i still read it because its a good read. I like his work and i will continue to read it so long as he continues to put out the magazine. our last layout was really bad, yes, but remember, making a product, good or bad, takes time effor and patience. we worked hard and did our personal best on that first issue. We were quite proud of our work at completion. For you to sit here and tell us it was a load of crap(not your exact words) is like saying you just wasted your time and you should quit and give up on this because it was really bad. I have never, in all my time here, put down anyone or their work i always give positive feedback to everyone!
really its not the whole " the design was bad" thing thats got me so burn up. Its the fact that you disowned my quote in my signature. That quote is very special to me and was given to me by my grandfather before he passed away. he knew that i wanted to be a leader so he gave me that quote only hours before he died. I honestly want an apology for that. The design thing i can kinda agree on but i just wanted to touch on it in my rant above.

were not trying to be super professional because this contest wasnt meant to be so. this was a casual contest with a casual reward but apparently all people here know is "im gonna win cash" and " im gonna win an upgrade for 3dgs" and other fancy prizes. no one wants to do anything for fun anymore. it its not fun and you dont actually enjoy doing it theres no point in doing it.

P.S dont take anything personally im in a very bad mood...

"Head director of Initiate Games (c) 2007
Owner of Sckratch Magazine (c) 2007"

i believe thats what he was saying he thought was childish. not saying that you should take it down but you shouldnt claim to be head director of something if it is base on really a non-existent setup, really you should wait till you have more followers (imo). Not meant to be taken offensive, so dont read too far into what I said.

Hello not_me,

if you post something to the forum you will get feedback and this is the
purpose of a community forum.
Sometimes you like the feedback and sometimes you will dislike.

My first showcase was discribed as "eye disease"...

So you should take any comment as a sportsmen. Shutting down your work
after one critical comment is definately the wrong way in my opinion.

And in my experience even if you are upset with some comments at the beginning
it was always helpfull in long term.

So do not give up!
