Movies are a linear realtime recording of a predefined story line, and one final outcome.

Video Games, non linear, user controlled story, with multiple outcomes. Add in multiple user controlled storys, group dynamics, and social networking. And you can see why Video Games as a medium is the big fish in entertianment, now.

Paying Jim Carey 20 million to voice a character in a game will not happen in my lifetime. That ship has sailed...

Just played Bomberman on the XBOX360 for 3 hours last night, had a blast. Do'nt remembr any music, and the voices were quite simple and basic, but effective. I do remember the fun visual effects, the smooth animation and the clever game play modes... Gee guess what effected my buy decision...

At this point we can only argue the complexities of subjective tastes. *shrug* We differ, simple as that.

Thats cool we disagree.

Do you think musical will become a genre for video games? Like it is for Movies and Theater?

Once there is a musical genre in video game then music will be the trump card for that genre of game.

Now for something silly....

HALO 3 The Musical... After a long day of fragging the players could break out in song.... Kligon on style....

Next we could have Halo 3 "On Ice"..... smile Arby and Chief dance the nutcracker with skates.... smile

Oh divas! They should have their own trailer, with their own hairdressers and wardrobe..."I cant work under these conditions...I just cant!"
or..

"Noone recognizes my talents!"

poor divas. I feel so bad for them! grin

the way you are saying things ( correct me if im wrong) looks like its simple just make games without any songs because :

Thats fine, but that person is you, I have countless names of games that hold me playing for hours because of music, example, Twisted Metal II and III is one of them, the game cant be SIMPLER, its just a bunch of cars shooting each other, but I can remenber myself singing the songs while playing it and AFTER playing it and still remenber of graphics and Gameplay!

When playing games I like to feel the 'atmosphere', its almost like a movie, I like to me enterteined, imersed in whats happening, and everyone knows, songs have a huge part in that.

anyway, im not saying that they should sell their music from 100000000 bucks, but I think its fair you be payed similar to other people on the team. Because while the programmer spend 60 HOURS and going to sleep with a headache, the musician, spend hours playing its instrument, messing with samplers, oscillators, beat generators, delays, reverbs and all that crap playing OVER AND OVER AND OVER in their ears until they get the cool sound for your game, I can tell the headache is pretty much the same when you go to sleep, and that annoyng beat still 'beats' in your head.

ps. Im a programmer and a musician by the way.

edit. ps. Not professional though.

Destroy, you've got it all wrong in terms of what Nardulus and I are saying. I suspect you have not read the entire thread. wink

actually I did,
I might have misunderstood some things.
But when I read this:

I felt it more like a self opinion of nardulus than a true fact, so by that, I post my opinion of how much I think music is important to a game and start mocking musicians or game titles just because a couple of real 'stupid music divas' complained about price is not much fair.

I just think it should be fair, game is not easy to do neither good music!

sorry if i misunderstood something.

edit. Although noone asked for my opinion, i felt saying it anyway. sorry about that either.

Hi Destroy,

Sorry I did not mean to offend with my coarse opinion.

To me music in a game is just something that fill's in background noise.

I am playing Bio Shock and the music is pretty much meaningless to me. I just finished Crysis and I do not remember any of the music...

Now music for a trailer about the game is very important. It has it's place. I just do not elevate it to the level of art and game code.

Sorry we differ on that...

During my pitches of games, music, was never an issue or a part of the pitch. I pitch, game play, art, animation, skill of artists, skill of programmers. Publishers have never asked about my music choices...

This just my opinion, and experience...

Footnote: As a professional developer, that has to raise funds for games, it would be a real pain if my musician and voice talent became a large part of my budget. I would probably shit can the project and find something else....

Ken
