Back in February I posted a few questions in a message titled

"collision, polygon transparent, mdl to map"

I never received any responses to my questions but the Collision and Mdl to Map problems have been taken care of. The one remaining problem of disappearing (Transparent) polygons or triangles still remains. Please refer to the link below to read my previous post so that I do not have to take up more space in repeating a post.
http://www.conitec.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001597.html

this time I have posted two pictures of the problem at the following links:
http://home.earthlink.net/~ronholmes/16160.jpg
http://home.earthlink.net/~ronholmes/31160.jpg

This problem also appears if I bring this model into the Office Level so I am sure it is something about this model and another that I made. The other model was just a square box with the entire model at 256 X 256 pixels. So it is either something in common with both models or there is something in A4 version 4.23 that is causing it.

I have worked on this problem for more than two months without any success in resolving it and I have no more ideas on how to remedy the situation.

Thank you for any help anyone can give.

Ron

I have been having similar transparency problems; they seem to occur after I have textured my models, at which point, one side of my models seems to be transparent, giving me a clear view of my character's insides.

Actually, I noticed this problem started for me after I downloaded the latest WED and MED versions, so it may be something to do with them. Hope this helps.

Even I have the same problems...........

My models and also some of my blocks has missing polygons... through which i can see through and see what is on the other side... and some times i can even pass through the blocks... which looks textured and looks like a obstrucale... i can pass through....

I don't know why this comes... but it comes.... please help me to find some solution for it..!!!

Is it having any relation with the normals of the blocks or textures, etc... ???

Help me.......

with regards,
Sac

Well, I tried downloading MED and WED again, but no luck. I'm going to try backing up my computer to another one and wiping it, in the hopes that I've just had one-too many small programs fiddling with settings. But I think this may be a bug in the program itself. I'll let you know if this works.

Oh, and sac I think it has something to do with the textures but I'm not sure. It always starts for me after texturing. (I think, I can't be sure with a black model)

Sounds like a polygon normal problem. Have you checked that all your normals are pointing the right way?

hi Josh,

I don't think the wiping and reinstalling of the softwares will be a solution as i think that there is some bug in the software... I'm not sure......

And how can it be bug in the texture ??? its not possible ... if its possible .. please tell me how ????and how to rectify it ??

regards,
Sac

sac, I didn't mean it was a problem with the textures, I meant it might be that there is a bug that is activated when you import a texture. As for the normals, I'll have to check that. I've been using a spline based model editor, and then transferring them into MED, so I didn't have to worry about normals during creation. Thanks for the tip Doug. And by the way, I doubt that wiping and reinstalling will help, but it's worth a shot, especially since I didn't have these problems until I re-installed MED and WED a while ago.

Ok, I just checked one of the models that wasn't working, and it doesn't look like the normals are pointing the same way, but I'm still new at this; can someone give me a bit more info about normals? what are they/what do they do/how can I make them point the right way? (btw I did this in MED, not WED, I'm not sure how to view normals in WED.)

Okay, I'll help you out. Here you go...

Nightwing's Normal-Flipping Tutorial:

Open your model in MED (NOT WED) and observe your model with backfaces being drawn. Next, go to Options -> 3D View -> Draw Backfaces to uncheck this option. If any polygons disappeared, some of the polygons aren't facing the right way. This simulates the in-game conditions, as only one side of all polygons will be drawn to save time within A4/A5.

To correct this, turn on Vertices Ticks under Options so that the wireframe is visible. Next, use your selection tool to select the appropriate polygons (Ctrl + click to select multiple faces). Finally, click the "Flip Normals" button on the top tool bar, which is sixth from the right. Any polygons which are selected will then be flipped.
