I take most of you still haven't heard of it, but today 1100GMT+2 there was school shooting, similiar to the case last year, at Kauhajoki, Finland. The injured were taken to the hospital just across the street of my school. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/09/23/finland.school.shooting/index.htmlIt's dramatic to hear of more these. What do you think. I can only say, let the 10 dead victims rest in peace. I will pray for them and their families.

Yeah, another very sad day when it comes to real life violence. Still, I can't help but wonder how a 22 year old can get arrested for 'inappropriately violent' behavior (aka playing with his guns like a madman), then get released without his weapon license being revoked... after which he's able to go ahead with his carefully planned murder spree. The guy was nuts. But apart from that... and I hate to be a wisecrack when it involves real people getting killed, but did you know Finland has the most weapons per inhabitants after the United States and Jemen?? I really think the problem is obvious.

Yeah, I'm aware of the fact and aren't sure just how this is related to the shootings.
Yeah sure, ban all weapons from all ages, start trying to control it. The more you try to take away, the more it comes back.
These people just want to get famous like the shooters in the america.

Mmm, yeah I think you're right, perhaps in both cases.
You are definitely right in that these people want to become famous by their insane actions. Which is why I think it's not a very clever idea that such terrible things end up on the front page of every news paper, in the news and so on.
On the other hand, the media obviously can't ignore it either as that would be weird.
As for gun control, well, we do not have these problems (yet?) and our gun control is very tight. Something tells me this works better.
I'm not saying criminals don't have access to weapons anymore, quite the contrary, but most if not all violence with weapons here is between criminals. Criminals killing criminals, not psychologically deranged kids that play around with guns thinking they're a star in some kind of action movie.
Cheers

If we would've had more gun control before the shootings, there might've been a affection. Now it would just cause rioting and anger.

True. And if I'm not incorrectly informed, the minimum age allowed to carry weaponry will be highend.

I heard the news this morning while I was driving to work. It's a sad event regardless of where it occurs when innocent people are cut down by misguided, deranged, or deluded individuals.
May the young souls rest in peace. My empathy is with the families of the victims.

I don't know that banning guns would be the answer. In this particular circumstance, it may have prevented the act. On the other hand, I image that sick minds would find alternatives. After we had a similar event at a university in Montreal, the age limit to purchase guns legally was raised (I believe it's at 21 now) and a national gun registry was created. Still, shootings occur nearly every week in Toronto. Last week a sixteen year old was shot by another sixteen year old while they were trying to rob an eighteen year old at school.

Quoting Inestical. These people just want to get famous like the shooters in the america. Ah, yes...the sweet taste of postmortem fame. Surely, the gun man is savoring it now, in ......... .........nowhere, he's dead (according to the story). Try again for motive!?
