Is there a reason why I shouldn't use atlas mapping for all skins - it seems easy to use and more flexible than 2 and 6 sided mapping.

Thanks

Hi!

My problem with Atlas mapping is that all the parts
are viewed in a distorted way ...what is what?

It's great for a quick skinning.

I have to experiment with this option...

It's not a dumb question. It's just difficult to answer. Well, as long as atlas mapping works fine with your models there is no reason you shouldn't use it. As far as I know (and that is not very far concerning modeling techniques) atlas mapping is a good solution for many objects. However, as you model more complex objects like animals or humans you have to rework the skinning by hand or use another uv wrapping tool. Usually the more complex the model is, the more you'll have to do yourself. From a technical point of view it does not make any difference to the engine what technique is used for skinning.

Always learn from history, to be sure you make the same mistakes again...

Thanks Ottawa/Uhrwerk

Do you know of a good technique where you can easily relate the unwrapped image to specific parts on the original model ?

In other words: I have an unwrap image, how do I know where the fingers are, for example ?

Thank you

Hi!

Select the part that you think are the fingers or
the finger of the map and place a different color.

Change color and do another area of map.

Look at the results smile

This is how I have been using it on certain models.

Hope this helps.
