sue me :P When posting your work here, you expose it to criticism. If you are easily offended by negative opinions, don't post. of course, i can't be everywhere and destroying newbie spirits. i'm used to see crude graphics and unfinished projects in this forum. i ignore them mainly. but as i saw your topic "Harry Potter World ", in one line with "Dun,Dun,Dun (Not Part Of Title)", my curiosity rushed me into this thread, and then i saw that.. thing that looks like a pc tower. you made my day it's funny, you know, i once wanted to make a game that resembled quake 2 and quake 3, with the a4 standard package, no colored lighting, i didn't know how to use wed and med, couldn't draw textures, but i made some block levels and i _really_ thought it looked better than the quake series. some years later, i looked at the screens and i was was laughing so hard, aw, that was a funny day. i bet you'll experience the same quite soon. so it's not a personal attack, it's more like i'm finding myself in your inability together with your unbreakable idealism.

Lolz, one they are not blocks in med and i don't really care about your failed attempt at making a copy of quake, if you have nothing creative to say then please (as i have already said) don't post anything, you are wasting my time and other peoples time who have click to read what the you have said, and found out it is pointless. # Any feedback given on these forums must be to the topic and never act as a personal attack to the topic starter or any of the other posters (by the forum rules). Please try and give as much constructive criticism as possible.
# When criticising, whether good or bad, please give a reason to why you like / dislike the certain piece of work that is being showcased. One-liners such as "excellent/crap" do not contribute. Insults are of course off-limits, by the forum rules, and can lead to banning from the forum.
Please try and give as much constructive criticism as possible. How does this @error014: don't waste your words and your time. look at the "screenshot", smile or laugh hard, and file it under "will never be finished/another noob project". cheers. or this? and if you have nothing to show but some hideous boxes glued together, don't open a "projects" thread. come under criticism? i bet you'll experience the same quite soon. I really doubt it.

My first... yes my VERY first project ever i worked on for 2 1/2 years and comleted it.
It was grandiose, it was beyond the scope of any sanity for a first project.
And I did it.
I started it, and I completed it.
I don't know who some people think they are determining who can and who cannot complete a project based ONLY on one single model.
Since noone has a working crystal ball, these are personal attacks plain and simple. It's sad that people who've accumulated some 4,000+ posts have yet to learn to act professional and mature in these forums, and says a lot about their businesses.
Those are the people who will fail.

Since noone has a working crystal ball, these are personal attacks plain and simple. You don't need a crystal ball to be able to tell which projects will succeed and which will fail. It's only a matter of statistics. I don't think any of the people who brought Blade down actually wanted to hurt Blade personally or wanted him to give up on his game developing dreams. I personally cherish everytime I see a new member posting in the gamestudio forums. I don't see why someone wouldn't. But whether you like it or not, broozar and Error014 have reality on their side. Blade's project is too ambitious and I would actually bet all my money that it will actually fail. Would you, BlueBeast and Phemox, bet money that he will make a game featuring all Harry Potter books? My first project was a MMORPG done using... wait for it... Click and Create from Clickteam. I had literally hundreds of posts telling me it's almost impossible to make a MMORPG using Click and Create and I'll almost certainly fail. But those posts had almost the opposite reaction on me. Even though I'd probably ditch my idea after a few weeks, just so I'd prove all those people from the Clickteam forums wrong I kept working on it. My team grew up to 20 people, we became organized, wrote a Design Document, kept weekly meetings and hired a Project Manager, and slowly but surely 4 years later.. we failed . But that project was what got me into game development and I'd like to think that part of it is because of that hard criticism I've received. So, what I'm saying is, if you don't have the stones to put up with a dose of hard reality coming from more experienced users than yourself, then you'd certainly not have what it takes to put up with the very hard road that is 'indy game developing' anyway.. So, it looks like Blade does have the stones and he doesn't look let down by those comments at all so while he keeps going on with his project I'll be here cheering for him..

Blade, if you found my comments offensive, then I want to apologize. That is my style and some might say it was in an attempt of humor, but I didn't want to hurt you in any way. I have posted more than enough here, and I think I've made my point clear. I wish you the best of luck with your project and, as I've written, I do hope that I'm wrong and you'll make it. What you may not know is that two years ago, around this time, I made a thread called "my humble beginnings", in which I showed screenshots of my very first semi-real project (a template-shooter), complete with cynical, accompying text. So despite what I've just said - my project was a lot worse. Unfortunately, that thread got lost in the forum-change, but I've managed to retrieve a bit of it (amazing shots like this one). If theres interest in that, we could open a new one of those, making it possible for everyone to see that many years ago, even broozar was proud of laughable levels. Plus, wouldn't you love to see how LarryLaffers MMORPG looked like, what Phemox once thought was awesome and how grandiose Bluebeasts first project really was? Because I really would love to see that. This thread, however, seems to be totally lost now. I'm not a moderator, but I personally vote for creating a new Harry-Potter-World-thread, a fresh and clean start. I promise, I won't post so much in there. Do others agree that, professional or not, Blade at least deserves a thread to show his project to the world, without people like us moaning? (Sure, a bit of negativity is okay, but it went overboard here)
Perhaps this post will get me points for originality at least.
Check out Dungeon Deities! It's amazing and will make you happy, successful and almost certainly more attractive! It might be true!

Would you, BlueBeast and Phemox, bet money that he will make a game featuring all Harry Potter books? I do like to gamble a bit from time to time, but I'm sure my money would be better spend elsewhere. That, however, is not the issue at hand here. Plus, wouldn't you love to see how LarryLaffers MMORPG looked like, what Phemox once thought was awesome and how grandiose Bluebeasts first project really was? Because I really would love to see that. True, it does make me smile seeing what in the past I thought was amazing work done by me. It's part of the learning process and part of life to be confronted with uuhmm harsh reality I guess. Also... it can only get better the more time you invest, even the worst can become the best. It's just a matter of grabbing the opportunities and going for it, Cheers

well my screenshots are on my website in my sig ( www.nordicepitaph.com) and for the record, I don't think it's amazing at all, but it was good and it is pretty damn accurate (the first level, not the ones in space lol) And I could have made it more detailed, but with such a huge outdoor level, and wanting it to run on really lame and slow computers, I made due with what you see there. Overall though, it was still a great game in many ways. It needs some adjustments and more ideas, but that hemi powered golfcart with the cannon is FUN to drive! Anyway... Making a game for every Harry Potter book... well yes that would be a huge challenge. I agree. One thing I'd like to point out is I've seen the Harry Potter movies but have never read the books, so i don't know the differences. But from what I've seen in the movies is there was really only a few different sets which the characters were in. The home where Harry lives, the train station, Diagon alley where they do the shopping, the bank, the forest, and Hogwarts, of course. Im sure theres more... but for creating the worlds, the buildings in Diagon alley you could use maybe 4-5 types only and change the skins, or make pieces of buildings and arrange them differently on each building. That makes it easier to have so many buildings without making them all seperately. As for Hogwarts, so many windows and arches and walls can be repeated where making any set there much more easy. Just need details like flags, books, candles etc. This wont be an easy project, but the story and the characters and locations are already thought out. Depending on the degree of accuracy and detail of the 'worlds' etc, this project won't be a total killer. I do think it could be done over time. But again, with such drive and ambition, even if it doesnt get completed, it's going to be a good learning experience. I just don't think that looking at 1 model can allow anyone to make an accurate judgment about much at all. The hardest projets are recreating someplace that already exists. That I know first-hand. My advice is before you start on this project, go in with a certain mindset. Do NOT pay attention to visual accuracy when making most of your scenes. Noone is going to notice anything except the familiar. I could make Diagon Alley with some types of buildings that dont look like in the movies and noone would even notice they werent accurate. Keep your accuracies to things where the players have to pay special attention to something... like a certain storefront in the alley. Everything else just has to be close, or fit in with the theme. Take that advice and follow it. It'll make things go a LOT quicker! As for the details, you dont NEEED all the details. You dont NEED to worry about every candlestick, every flag, every book, every chair etc etc.... if you sweat that, it WILL take you many years :P Just throw in some of those details in some areas just to make the point of that scene. You dont need to make it so accurate that it looks like a screenshot from a movie :P At least you dont have to make levels using satellite images and zoning maps and 2000+ digital photographs for accuracy like I did :P And there's a kazillion pictures on the web, and you can always throw a HP movie in to see things for references and ideas! In fact, next to Star Wars, you couldnt ask for more reference pictures for a project! You'll do well indeed. - Jason

I agree on starting a new thread, please can a mod lock this and i will start a new thread in a few weeks when i have more pictures and a design document completed. Thanks for all the advice, and error i didn't take what you said offensive, only the offensive and pointless comments posted by broozar.
I have been working on the game play a lot and think about how i will code it, more than i have been modeling.
