Okay, I'll be honest. The "For-Now"-comment, now removed, was there because I thought that your idea is maybe two days old, and in that time, you're still in the super-motivated-phase, but that one is going to end, and soon (If I were an ass, I'd ask Kiyaku to post something about that, but I'm not an ass. OH SNAP DID I JUST DO IT ANYWAYS?! ;)).

I'm still not convinced. And really, what do I have to work with? There's a screenshot of something in MED of which I have trouble to recognize what it is, and so far, its hard to see how much time you've spent on it.

Mind you, I really don't want to discourage anyone to show their project here, but I'd love it if, you know, one could actually see something and see what kind of project it is. I had to ask what kind of game it's going to be - now it's buried on page 2 (on our somewhat pointless conversation, for which I am 100% responsible, so I apologize), and it's still kind of vague, don't you think?

That is something you can avoid, and the way to do that is called planning.

I mean, apart from the whole not-original-stuff, I can see that the HarryPotter-universe is a dream come true for many ideas, but you have to CHOOSE ONE and STICK TO IT. And TRY THE GAMEPLAY FIRST. You don't want to end up with thousands of assets only to realize that the whole game isnt really fun to play.

And now, for the mean part. I still don't think that you're going to finish this, or even one level. This is not because I think that you're stupid or anything, it is just because, well, most of us aren't able to do it. That's it. Statistics. The numbers tell us that there is a 99,9% chance that you won't finish the game. It'd be foolish of me to bet differently. Now I must confess that I have a hard time recalling any game of you that you finished - note: everyone would have a hard time recalling a game that I finished, so theres that, too - and that doesn't make me any less suspicious. I simply have an idea how much time this might need to finish (that might be totally off, because I - see above - haven't finished anything large, either), and I can only see something that looks like a one to two-hour-effort at best, so that you are, in total, still < 1% completion.

I'm not saying this to discourage you, also I can definately understand if it does, and for that, I am sorry. But instead of posting here, there is a better way to get me to shut up, and that is to continue working on this and show me that you CAN do it. In that case, I will look like a complete idiot - more so than usual - and you can point and laugh. Is that a challenge? I hope you see it as such, and I do actually hope that you will win.

That being said... I wish you were doing it with your own scenario and world. Take what you like about harry Potter, any maybe about other series or stuff, and combine it in a logical way. You have something even better, and its YOURS!


Perhaps this post will get me points for originality at least.

Check out Dungeon Deities! It's amazing and will make you happy, successful and almost certainly more attractive! It might be true!

My main idea for this was that as the character you are given a timetable, and to make it more fun you can attend these lessons any time (other wise it will become to boring).
In the lessons you will be taught spells or potions, you will learn these through mini-games and/or challenges.

The mini-games, for potions, e.g. You will arrive in lesson and be told all the ingredients you will need, you will then collect the ingredients from the store cupboard(although i think i might make it so you explore the grounds to find them), you then return to your desk with them and add them in the correct order (this is a maybe, as again it might become boring), then once this is done you will hand over the potion and it will be graded, once you have learnt the potion you can then make it anytime in i am thinking moaning myrtles bathroom , like in the chamber of secrets book, this will allow the character to procure the ingredients there-selve and produce the potion any time.

If you want more details feel free to ask.

Sorry that was a grammar error. The game will be a mix between an RPG/GTA style free roaming and other HP games

The main thing i want to concentrate on is the free roaming, being able to go to all locations in the book but still keep it relevant to the story, i also want to make the lessons a very good and unique feature, and finally the spell casting system, which will most likely be the hardest as i want it continuous but i can only think of a reasonable turn-based system.

I want quidditch to be a good mini-game, it will allow you to fly all around the pitch high and low, and will have real playing, i may also try and make it an online experience.

Again, this will depend on how fun it is, i will be experimenting with the ideas, playing them in-game.

There is nothing saying you do need to post tons of screens is there? But posting pointless replys about nothing?


I will have some more to show later today hopefully, have not been able to access my computer for a day so i couldnt finish my models.

But as people said it is hard to make models from references, and even more so when they are not very good references, so it takes some time.

So please stop complaining about the threads i start, when there are threads with pictures of just a blank room in here.
