Well.. I'm just not big on that cocky behavior, everyone just took the opportunity to praise their highly organized light-desktop folders and mad back-up'ing skills.. And what I said was, you're implying you'd handle it better now, not that it hasn't happened to you before.
Btw, you seem obsessed with shutting down your pc if you lose files. That is only important if your hard disk is full or you have already reached the full capacity of your hard disk once in the past. Assuming that puppeteer has only filled half the size of his hard disk, then virgin (real empty) space would be preferred from fragmented space such as the space occupied by his deleted important data, so until his hard disk fills up completely his data would be safe, giving him enough time to run recovery software. So anyhow, all I'm saying is it could still have happened to any of us, we don't have to play big brother on him. Maybe you can help him without giving him the extra details about the 50+ people you used to help, the live CD that you've made, all the clients that panicky called you for help and all the tough love that you're showing to the 'kid'(ex. I may be mean, but I have quite some expirience in file restoration...)
Anyway, I really didn't mean to start an argument on this. This is all barely important.. I'm just gonna leave this thread so it can serve its original purpose..
Cheers, Aris

No, no. This can happen to everyone. I had lots of hd crashes in the last years. My office was too hot in the summer. And I experienced really bad stuff like this:
One hdd crashed but some electrical impulses also destroyed the second drive. I thought having 2 separate drives is safe but it is not. My sister's pc got completely destroyed by a thunder bolt during a thunder storm.
And that is the reason that I store backups only to external plug-able devices now like data sticks and external disk drives. I bought an external drive with 1,024 Megabytes (yes, one Terra) for about 130 Euros. This is worth it. I can backup everything now. And I do.
So I would recommend to store data externally.

... This is absolutly unacceptable and not my fault so what should i do? ... I think this part is the one which tells me what to do but i dont really understand what it means ... I think that LarryLaffer stated the course of action that you can take (" ... this is a major bug which should be reported immediately ...") aside from working on recovering your data. My interpretation of the section of the contract that you clipped basically says that the Mozilla Group (Firefox) is not responsible for any damages caused by the use of their software. If a claim for damages is filed and accepted, the maximum payment for damages will not be for more than $500.00 (USD). When reporting the issue, you can ask what type of compensation you are entitled to and what you need to do to apply for it. Chances are that you will need to demonstrate some proof of the value for the data that has been lost. The Mozilla\Firefox End User Software License (version 3) also states: 6. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY. The product is provided "as is" with all faults. To the extent permitted by law, Mozilla and Mozilla’s distributors, and licensors hereby disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation warranties that the product is free of defects, merchantable, fit for a particular purpose and non-infringing. You bear the entire risk as to selecting the product for your purposes and as to the quality and performance of the product. This limitation will apply notwithstanding the failure of essential purpose of any remedy. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of implied warranties, so this disclaimer may not apply to you. This says that the software is provided as is (bugs included) and that you have accepted the risks of using the software, which doesn't allow you for much opportunity to make a claim against Mozilla. Good luck recovering your data. As you can see from the previous responses, we have all been there at one time or another.

you are aware, that every second you continue to have the PC running and downloading new stuff, your chances to recover ANY file are counting towards zero?
I may be mean, but I have quite some expirience in file restoration, and the first thing you should have done was to SHUT DOWN your PC instantly (using the power plug! not the shutdown feature of windows) and then plug the HD in into some other PC and run a Restoration sofware there.
Basically by continuing to work on your PC, you diminished every chance of recovering your files.
I know that. I already restored every deleted file on an other computer but the major problem was that i was copying some files on my harddisk while firefox deleted the profile so some got damaged. And the other problem is that it seems to be impossible to restore wdl files Oo If you dont believe it you can delete one file and try to restore it somehow it is totally gone... EDIT: Thanks Larry ^^

If you dont believe it you can delete one file and try to restore it somehow it is totally gone... I restored my project files very often (including WDL files). Maybe it's your recovery program? Try GetDataBack for NTFS/FAT. It's what I use and it never let me down.
