Its possible, you have 2d in every 3d game just about(panels for one), but like any language out there you can't just pick it up and master it in the same day. that's including lite-c and any browser based language. I started flash last year and im still no master, granted it is an easy language to an extent. Like any language you have the easy parts and the hard parts with lite-c if you have no programming experience it will not be "very easy" but after a while it will get easier. That goes for all languages. You asked about java also, i would say don't start with java. Java is a strict language and more browser games are made with flash and php. To make a game like club penguin which is a mmorpg, you would need experience and it would take alot of time and planning. Alot more goes into a game even as simple as club penguin, and then even more if you want that game to be able to be playable by more than one person, then even more if it needs to communicate with the web browser.
Basically what the point is when you start and language what ever one you pick don't go in aiming to make the next mmorpg sensation pulling in a 350 million dollar contract with Disney or your gonna get disappointed quick. I am sure every programmer is going to tell you this also, start small. As for the amount of time it takes to make a game like club penguin, that would depend on art work skills, programming skills, and problems you encounter along the way.
So the answer if you could create a game like or better than club penguin, yes its possible,BUT is it a realistic goal when your new to programming, no.
that's my opinion. Good luck with what ever language you decide to go with.

I am not gonna start to build a game like Club Penguin while asking every day what should I make next. I am gonna create a mmorpg like that when I really master programming. I know it depends, but I don't want to make the game alone..we will be around 3-4 guys,we all are good "designers".. So,how much time would it take? I'll tell you my idea: A 2d city with 3d characters(your character),pretty large, with buildings(2d) where you can enter and play different 2D games and 3d games. Also night/day effects. You have "missions" or "quests",you can buy different items from the shops and chatting with other players. Finally, you can have your own house,in an appartment or a house(both 2d).
I may write here some impossible stuff, but correct me and answer me question, please.
