most game design companies have a team of over 50+ people to help plan and create a game, if my project should be succesful, i intend on getting as much crits and feedback as possible rather than being a designer saying "oo, my idea will be kickass", so what this thread is for... i just want a small description of unique game weapons and unique vehicles that you think would fit a slightly futuristic sci-fi shooter...

this IS a realistic game in some ways and i expect the ideas given to follow that rule, with that said, please keep you skateboard, nuke machine guns and teddybear shooting rocket launcher ideas to yourselves.

i'm looking for vehicles and weapons that could be used by an army whether alien based or whatever that could be detailed... think outside of the box.. looking forward to your ideas, also note that if the idea is great that i might code it and include it ingame so giving an idea for a game you plan on making probably isnt best, but if you just have some ideas and would love to see them ingame, feel free to add, i'll write down the best ideas, maybe combine a few and see how plausible it is to the style of our gameworld, looking forward to your responses.....

well true, but not everyone that has a game idea or weapons and vehicles idea lan to make that game... its not that i cant come up with weapons and vehicles of uniques style, just that i wanted to see what the majority wouldve said...

It's hard to find the balance between "too freaky", "not freaky enough" and "already done". I had sort of saw-shooting launcher in mind, but then I remembered that's the Ripper from UT... Now I thought about grenades that causes sort of twister, but wait, you already have it. So it's really hard to find something... Vehicles are the same, most has already been done or isn't unique enough... or TOO unique, say freaky...
The only thing that I could think about were some flying vehicles, but not using a rotor or something, but real, working wings - you might have seen that in the third episode of Star Wars, on the Wookie planet... grin

Hey, I'll help. I'm working on the WWII game, so I'll give ya all the futuristic ideas you could ever want! wink Just a moment, and I'll edit this post with a simple sketch and description of one idea...

Ok, hope my quick drawing doesn't make the idea seem stupid, but the US military is actually planning and even prototyping some designs similar to this:



Basically, it's a very light "half-track" truck, which makes it fast and capable of traversing everything from rough/soggy/marshy/sandy terrain, to urban environments (even full of rubble and debris). In the future, armor will be stronger but lighter, allowing such vehicles to be tough and swift on their feet... uhhh.. wheels and/or tracks, lol.

It would carry at least a driver and weapons operator. It should have really good suspension, and the weapons would use gyros for stability (helps for shooting on the move). The rear hatch could open up to allow it to carry a few men or equipment. You could even use it to haul heavy things like large guns or mobile rocket launch pads.

For the weapons, it just depends on *how* futuristic you're going for. The guns could be real guns, or even some sort of laser type weapon. Of course, the rockets should be some sort of "smart" rockets, aka guided ordnance. How big and powerful you want them would determine how many it carries. Those could be used for killing vehicles, destroying buildings, aircraft, whatever. They would probably be the most "realistic" as vehicle killers though.

The armor should be angular/sloped, or faceted. Angular armor is tougher than flat armor, because the angle actually makes it thicker when rounds impact it. Look up "relative armor thickness" for a better explanation, or click here:

Something like this should be pretty fast. Maybe 60-75mph on roads and 45-55 on normal terrain. Slower, of course, in really rough and mushy terrain. But that depends on how big and heavy you want to make it. I think it would be best as a light assault truck though.

Hope you like it, and hope the drawing didn't spoil the concept, lol. But things like this are actually being planned.

i like the vehicle idea, the use of tracks and such, am not a fan of putting too many weapons on a vehicle though, not in a game like this, but maybe i could have different versions of each, am wondering how the gs physics engine would handle tracks and wheels though, i know i could code a vehicle with tracks but it may behave weird if i use the tracks to move and wheels to stare, anyways, thanks for the idea.. i'll see where it goes....

well thats one, lol... anyone else?
