If you are a believer in "engineering realism" like me, devices must look like they were designed for their task.
Using that premise, heres a list of things "wrong" with the gun. (not on order of importance) 1> It looks to need three hands to operate. (just a visual thing) 2> The slanted cocking-slide will 'destroy' your aim between shots. (Re-cocking will drag your aim down between shots) 3> Barrel MUCH too short for a 'scatter' projectile. (Scatter-ammo plus short barrel severely reduces effective range) 4> Cocking mechanism(front) and ammo-reservoir(rear) are too far apart. Mechanism would be too delicate.
Almost all "real" guns of today look the way thay do for one simple reason. Its the most "useful" shape for the gun to be. Go beyond that and the guns starts getting "difficult" or "tricky" to use, and thats bad in a combat situation.

Hey, that doesnt matter, everyone has to start somewhere. Ive had to go over these issues multiple times with some of my son's weapon designs for our RPG. (its a long way away so dont ask)
He got some inspiration from some of the final fantasy series weapons. You know the ones, swords one foot wide and twelve feet long? A little impractical. With "mechanical" devices, that sort of non-realism looks ugly real quick, in any scenario.
