Hello!

I am going to buy me a new CPU for my PC. I already bought a 9600 GT with 512 DDR3 and a 3GB Ram a half year ago. Now i want to buy a Quad-Core CPU.

Now I have got two questions:

1. Is this a good idea - I mean does it make sense to buy a better CPU?

2. Which would be the best?

Thanks for reading grin!

The questions rather are "Which CPU do you have right now?" and "Are you going to use software that can make good use of four cores?"...

You also didn't really make yourself clear: Do you just want a new CPU or also a new mainboard and so on? If you just want another CPU for your current system there's not much to recommend as there'll probably be just one option (in terms of which type you can use)...

Enjoy your meal

I recently build a completely new system which uses the following CPU:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
Its a 3.2 Ghz (per core) CPU for the AM3 socket.

edit:
By the way: toast is right. You should consider what you will use the computer for, if a quad core is needed for the tasks you need the computer to perform etc.

Hm, I want it also for playing games - I canīt play GTA IV online because you need a Quad Core CPU for it frown!

A have 2,8 GhZ dualcore at this time. Maybe building a completely new system? But I want to use my 9600 and my 3GB Ram because itīs relative new.

Sorry for bad english^^.

Well I guess your 9600 GT is a PCI-E graphics card? If yes it should be not problem to use it in a new computer.

About the RAM: You need to check out what type of RAM it is

About your CPU: Check out which CPU-socket your mainboard has and then check if there are any quad core CPUs available for that socket.
If yes you only need to install a new CPU and thats about it.
Otherwise you have to look for a new mainboard which supports a new CPU and (maybe) your RAM.
Then you have to replace mainboard and CPU.

What else you might want to check:
If your power supply is sufficient for your new CPU

i have a GeForce 8600GT 512MB ram with a core 2 quad q6600 (2,4ghz, 65nm)
and i had never problems with all i have done on this pc. this cpu does great work. the only thing i blame is the boxed fan. the cpu produces not less heat. so but this model isnt available anymore. theyīre new and efficienter now and with 45nm arcitecture.
