First of all, i'll disagree with manual being shit. It's really one of the best i read. Further... Conitec...Conitec? I have a feeling that Conitec is 2 guys working on improving the engine. Cause the improvements are slow and small. They should hire some more people to help them. The situation could be better then. And yes, i agree that their web site needs improving. But hey, maybe they're struck by this world financial crysis hehe. Who knows...

first: the manual is perfect! I have learned so much from it!
website needs urgendly some new look/information
today you are so overwhelmed by the process in everything around the pc, that it is very hard to find access to game programming/developement. Only a few have enough strength and endurance to learn for themself and it is really very much to learn! You will never address many people

for me, i have never given up. this is my 2nd project that i have tried to complete. my first project was overly ambitious, even with the help of some members here, i still couldnt complete the project. i was just too inexperienced and my workflow was awful. working alone on a project of the magnitude that it was, really wasnt good. my new project is going well. i am pretty much at the end of my project, hopefully i can get it done and truthfully i dont know what to do after that, lol. my other issue is, i have a wife and young children, and work full time, so time is an issue for me. plus i am working alone with limited assistance when i get into a jam with coding. another issue is, i just really got comfortable with c-script, and i dont want to change to lite-c, so i see a lot of lite-c contributions that can help me, but i can't use them because i don't have lite-c. i don't know, i guess we all have our own issues.
My Famous Quotes: "Hip hop is like a virus, infecting everyone and everything around it. Every form of media has some way, shape or form, assimilated hip hop into it." It has also mutated into other strains like, trip hop, house, rap, gangster, and conscious forms. Once you are infected with it, its with you for life."

I know this Engine since A5, then I bought A6 too but then I stopped. I think the main reason is globally the fact that there are still too many things at the old state of a few years ago. Not only the Visual things like the homepage, forum etc. I also mean those things like licensing questions.. Still only open source sdk, this is not really modern. U could expect to receive money for the sdk If it would be really one of the big engines. As a fan I know that the Acknex Engine is a big thing. But as a hobbyist programmer, it gives me the feeling of "outdated", it's sad yes, but other engines give also more the Welcome to this Engine effect. We are talking about an engine who's goal was and probably will remain to open the game development door for Beginners and give Professional ones the chance to be more productive with less time needed. So when I use it, I will think nice for hobby, then when I see that this project is getting important to me and I want to get something in the Enginge that hasn't been aready done, I use the sdk. But if I should add to the time I'm spending to "improve" the engine, money and maybe be thankful for havenig this opportunity I see what others engines are available in the world. And as most Engines today has built in scripting in Lua,Python or similar and often you see Enginges with .Net wrappers ( which means chances grow up to develop games in your prefered Language, even as a hobbyist I don't bother to much with risks in sense of performance impacts) I don't get that easy fascinatet by this Enginge as It was in 2001 where there haven't been so much competitors as today (and not that much hobbyist programmer like nowadays)
but i love this Engine and I still get back seeing what others do with it hehe

Some true words in this topic and I just want to add my 2 cents:
If the ones that claim A7 to be slow, outdated and without any workflow knew the then more expensive A4 they would pray each day and call the mythic jcl their god, A4 was and especially had nothing. A7.8 maybe does not have everything you want but almost everything you need (except a painting tool). You don't need 12000x12000px textures that take a month or longer to be created, you don't need super mega hyper shader 5.0 and 1000 players MMO support - let alone TUSC. You need the right a7titude and fun in making games, that is everything. Take Shigeru Miyamoto, the guys from Bungie/ Infinity Ward, John Carmack or [insert name here] and give them A7.8 Com or Pro, they will definitely make a great, great game. Maybe it's not the technical issues that make some of us say A7 is bug infested junk or whatsoever but the inner frustration, not about the tool but about ourselves. We realize we are not able to make the vision in our head become true and manifest itself in a full game which goes beyond the state of a prototype. But I think that's fine and all right as long as it still makes fun because most of us are hobby programmers after all. The manual is great, the engine became very fast in model rendering (760 skinned and animated entities <=> 434000 polygons (debug panel) <=> 49 moving enemies (along paths) and stable 60 fps on a 3 years old notebook at 1680x1050), lite-C is easy to use and today there is almost every instruction you need. So everyone get out, drink a beer or two, think about a new type of game - YOU CANNOT COPY THE "BIG" GAMES - and make yourself happy while listening to your favourite music or - just an advice -: Bob Ross - Joy of Painting, 416 episodes of happiness and rest.
EDIT: And happy birthday Blink!

Please go on posting your opinions, as so far it seems to show very well how good (or not so good) the different people actually know the engine V_Software: I had the feeling that the hobby developers are getting less (at least in germany)? I mean, no dusmania this year and also developia seems to be "fading away". I had the feeling that the respect people have for the whole modern technique is getting more and more and lesser people have so much interest in it, that they take the hurdle to get started and if they do they don´t seem to have the condition keep learning and to dig into it more and more. I think the best age to get started is between 13 and 15 years, everything before is too little to seriously get along with all the english and high concentration needed. Afterwards the respect often seems to be too big. A7 btw is weather buggy nor outdated, there is just still space for improvements and life would get boring if there wouldn´t. I btw didn´t notice that the community is getting smaller since I got a member in 2005. But it is may just "fading away" and because of that I didn´t noticed.
