@fogman & firoball
you're right he pm'd me.
@all
I checked Dark Basic years ago and had a little fun with it. But decided to 3DGS at the end.
So I started this Thead only to let you know that there is another Tool pimping its Atractivity with "use-me-for-free".
I for myself dont run behind each Engine that occurs in the Gamedevelopment world. Because I had to change workflow,language,... each time. Its like running first to this direction than to the other than to the third. And with each engine there is a point that blows all the beginning-euphoria.
Also Unity-Indie has this and I checked the features and unity-forum intensive ending with the point - even the installation became timewasting for me .
I have not the time to check all the engines. But I have A7 com - a solid much proven Beast! I know the engine ...know the capabilities ...coded thousands of lines already in its language(s) ...did much stuff with it and know some tricks. And I will use the Tool I'm familar with , to create and made, for what I came here in this bussiness. I want creating Games. Virtual Realities. Like painted picures I will telling stories and give the possibility to interact with. And yes I enjoy it very much to give my phantasies a "virtual" world!
Sorry for becoming offtopic but sometimes it going through with me. As I re-read my lines, it sounds like "The A7 fanboys prayer "
Someone know "Gods of war I call you" "My sword is by my side" ...

@Fireball : I guess i would buy a t letter after yours @gri : Gods of War don't exist, they've found what means peace i think ! Well , in fact lot of people could say like you : Someone that use Dark Basic Pro from years and stick with it could say : "I knwo it very well, i do what i want with it, i've got fun with it so i keep it" Okay you have lot of fun and pleasure to master and use your 3D Engine. But it's not defended to try or play with another 3D engine interface , juts to see how it works and if you can pull out basic things easily or not ! And come back to A7 , you' re not forced to try another engine and move tot it Like in life, dont' close your mind, keep it open, life is changing every second. Back to 3D engines : I also like a lot A7 comm , i wouldn't have bought it after my A6 comm if i really didnt' like so much or find it horrible Said 200 times or more : personnaly i just hope A8 to be more inspired by today interfaces and tools and have an all in one editor (No more MED or GED, just all in WED). Well it was just a personnal guess, i know A7 is lot more programmer oriented and lot of people like it more that way !

i downloaded and installed unity. the island demo was beautiful! and the shaders and shadows were beautiful. the workspace was a lot different from wed, so i was a bit intimidated, but when i have time i will play with it, i think it would be interesting to find out what i will be able to do. if you can put together levels that look like that, wow! and it's free!!!! i am installing darkbasic now, wonder how it compares?
edit: ok, i downloaded darkbasic.it looks ok, not impressed, but i guess i have to go to the website and see some gallery shots. the shaders are cool, and the shadows were ok. the cloud effects were nice, but not impressed.

I think it is easy to compare DB Pro, Unity, T3D and other engines: - you can test it - you can look, how many games they published in the last months - you can ask questions in all their forums
Personal taste is important if you are a hobby user and if you are working for fun. If you want to earn money, then it is not important what language or what tools you use. The result matters and the time, you need to get to this result. And of course the available distribution channels could be of importance. The gamer does not care, how much you liked the tools and the language.
When I make a 3d model then my customer will not care about my modelling tool. We offer models made in Blender, Lightwave or Max and still I only care about the quality of the resulting meshes, vertex-normalmaps, textures and materials. This is all what matters in the end.

If you want to earn money, then it is not important what language or what tools you use. The result matters and the time, you need to get to this result. They are related items If the language and the tools are not efficient than you lose time

i know A7 is lot more programmer oriented and lot of people like it more that way ! I wonder why many people assume that 3dgs is more programmer oriented while Unity is more artist oriented For me it is ( almost) the direct opposite Personally I dont like that much Unity's objects handling system , 3dgs is more intuitive from this point of view On the other hand Unity supplies true OO programming languages ( C# and Phyton ) and the modern component based architecture
