Meteor Mess ( RELEASED )

As the name says: a remake of the mother of all adventures Maniac Mansion in 3D, with Ankh / Jack Keane like graphics.
We made this game to learn how 3D Gamestudio works and to use this knowledge for our first own project.

The game is free and can be downloaded here : https://meteormess.de/

There is also a Facebook and a Twitter page:

The game initialization scripts have been improved a lot and a loading screen was added. Now MM3D starts somewhat faster.

The progress of the prerequisites for the german voice recordings is going very well.

We're also looking forward to the next GS version to check out MM3D with the new audio engine.

Hi Peg, I think, I do not only speak for myself. But donīt abuse the showcase as a news channel. The community surely reads all this stuff on facebook and twitter. But here - we are a developer community. Please add to your messages some audio or visual stuff. Take my words as very kindly, cause every time, I check this forum, I first take a look to your thread... just to see my personal favourite project of members. Always best wishes for this work.

Hi alpha_strike,

no problem. I'm always interested in other peoples' opinion.
Currently I'm not really sure what kind of information is wished in this special area. As Gamestudio projects are presented here I just thought the current state of the projects should also be found here.

What do the others think? Should we post some status updates here or should we leave those kind of information on facebook?
If so what kind of information do you wish to read here?

Regards,
Pegamode.

The newer rules of the showcase didnīt include the old standard "present projects, if they are nearly finish and in pro quality", they only want a "good looking standard", which is underlined with screenshots. So I personally think, that your project is in a very high quality and belongs to the showcase. To tell about your further and very interesting progress, it would be cool, if your could add some (why not) youtube - movies. Just a single pic, and in the background some of your voice recordings. That would be very cool.

Recently we added some pictures showing the progress of the polishing work on Facebook. Unfortunately the showcase isn't that good configured for showing pictures directly in the posts.

We really wish to show some new movies of our project. The problem is that we are still searching for a character modeller and animator. Currently new 2D sketches for the characters are drawn, but the last 3 character modellers that joined the team had to leave just after a few weeks due to missing spare time.
Although we stated that the characters are just placeholders every time we published a new video, most comments are about the bad quality of the character animations. That's the reason why we decided to stop publishing videos until we have at least one new character with new animations.

So ... if there's a character modeller / animator out there who is really interested in helping us: just contact us !!!

Or ... if you know someone who knows someone ... :-)

Regards,
Pegamode.

Do not take my words too pathetic. But what I learned from your project (after all these years), which is really interesting for my hobby work... is stability, durability and consistency. Years ago I startet with projects, and when I donīt finish them within a 3/4 year - I kicked them to hell. Now I can see work over years, which is very interesting for me - and it goes on. And this in a mentionable range of time. I am not really interested in projects whit no declared end by the developer... but this adventure is a really pointer in the 3gs com.
So - do not feel sad about a few comments "bad animations" - the only mission is to complete the game... and I like this independent style very much.
So I am looking forward to hear some ofyour sound samples. It is very interesting for me, cause I spend this year 700Euros just for pro speakers, which I recruted over voice base. So keep the good work on.

I think one of the most important time points of this project was when we decided the following things:

1) overworking ALL rooms (new textures, new objects)
2) making arcades playable (minigames, incl. online highscore tables)
3) adding voice samples
4) adding some further ideas we had

Without those points the project would have been released about 6 months after the AUM retro contest. But we wanted to release this one of adventure pearl the best way we can although we knew that our decision meant to add several years of work.

So ... we keep on working :-)

Some words to the voice recordings:

We have 3 different areas to be spoken:

1) Cutscenes
2) Object descriptions
3) Action comments

For the cutscene recordings we wrote a script with stage directions for every scene (about 45 different cutscenes).
Currently we record ingame videos for every single scene so that the speakers can watch and feel them.

Nearly every object has about 3 different descriptions (sometimes even different characters describe the same object in different ways).

Hundreds of actions are commented (eg. if you try to use the chainsaw with a plant).

All these things need to be recorded ... will be exciting :-)
