why not some pure 2D game contest and not 2.5D or 2D with 3D !

Whith a limlited size also ! Why not 2 Mo ?

Some next gen games remade on 2D keeping the original core gameplay elements ?

Be inspired laugh

Why don't you make a contest then? And why do you 'always' write Mo instead of MB? :<

I write Mo and "O" for octet instead of "B" for bytes laugh
It's from my country laugh !

For the contest, it's juste some idea for the moment !
I'll play with A8 2D Functions and see if i can make something
with 2D !

This time suggested a friendly contest :
No time or size limit.
Rules :
remake a next gen game on 2D retro cubic style with 2D graphics only or flat 2D polygons for sprites !

How is a contest with no time limit supposed to work?

I suppose he means no time limit of gameplay, not time to end the contest

Gamestudio is not really made for effective 2D games.
Its lacks several features to render, draw and manipulate 2D content, without cumbersome workarounds.

In Java for example, there are 2D contests for like 128x128
screensizes (gets scaled up when displayed).

But then a size limit of maybe 32kb is enough.

2 Megabytes are humongous for 2D games.
Most standard mobile phone games are between 100 to 400 kb.

----

I think a "max 200 Polygons on screen" and
max 32x32 Textures contest would be cooler.
To make 1996 style 3D games.

not bad, the only problem i have with 2d games is the collision detection but i heard A8 has something for that, though i dont own A8.

I did a 2d game for a contest once and has Damocles said, alot of workarounds needed, i for example had to write my own animation blending system because for example i needed to run while shooting, i couldnt just play one frame of the runshoot animation because then it'd just get removed almost instantly, i ended up having to play both shooting and nonshooting animations and then switch between them based on key press and a few timers, i think it came out nicely but for most 3d games, this wont be needed i guess laugh

i think 2MB is an ok size unless contestants would be expected to use small images and scale them up i guess

@DarkInferno: problems with collision detection? Well as long as youre not going for some pixelperfect things, its quite easy(i think). A tile engine/system for the level and basic static kollision and the world split up in parts which contain dynamic object being in those regions.
