I have an Acer Aspire 1825PT multitouch notebook. In the beginning everything went fine, it occured to me sometimes there was a random shutdown, but I thought maybe it was me.

Now, as of two days ago, the notebook abruptly shuts down at quite random:

When I start windows on battery, it shuts down halfway windows loading.
When I start windows on AC power, regardless of the battery being installed, it shuts down at random (between 3 and 30 minutes).
When windows has started and I pull out the AC power to turn to battery, it shuts down.
When I am on AC power and I reinstall the battery on the underside, it shuts down too.
At reinstalling windows, it holds up until windows is started for the first time, and this Acer program installs all sorts of things like audio drivers and windows live essentials. It crashed on me at windows live essentials and "Touch Portal".

BUT when I start in windows safe-mode or stay in the bios, everything is perfectly fine.

I did everythng:
Reinstalling windows (tried twice) does not bring back the notebook to the original state; it keeps shutting down now at random.
Shutting down various processes that might be power related has no effect.
Updated drivers and all, no effect.
Contacting manufacturer, well, they just regard you as stupid and refer to the "how to reinstall windows" guide (and close the case as if that should suffice).
What else *CAN* I do other than get my money back or send it to a repair center?

Any ideas are appreciated.
Regards,
Joozey

you might wanna try and clean the fans from dust and such, but that might require you to open the laptop and void your warranty.

I only have an Aspire laptop and it crashed when i played a few games a while ago because it got way too hot. Vacuum the back worked for me as well, so that might be the problem.

Is it hot at the back of your laptop when it crashes?

No it is not hot at all, just mildly warm. I dont perform much CPU heavy tasks, mainly use gamestudio and eclipse. I don't play games on it. Already blew what I could, it didn't help sadly.

I had to send in my Acer Aspire 3 times within one year.
(bought it like 6 years ago) I hate Acer!

It constanly heated up, and blew my graphicscard.

Anyhow, try to open it, and clean the fans, to have better cooling.

I would also suggest to burn a Linux liveCD (Ubuntu or so) and try to boot it,
and see if the OS was the reason.

I read that Acer gets too hot too fast everywhere, this definitely concludes that laugh thanks. Wont open it, I want to be able to sent it back. I was thinking of trying Ubuntu though, will try that.

If it shuts down on Ubuntu the same way, its a hardware problem.

Not evey Acer is like this! If you buy a good one, even if it´s a bit expencies, then you have a great cooling system! I have an Acer aspire 7745g with an i5 and 5850 mobility radeon. And when i´m playing on my bed, then i only get 70°C. Not more!

So it really depends on the model

Still I'm quite sure it's not the heat. The notebook is quite cold all the time.

yeah i got an aspire about 5 years ago and within a year the videocard connections mustve over heated or something because if i put my knee under the video card and applied force across the top edges and pressed down it would word (provided i used consistant pressure in exactly the right spots. i tried taking it apart to figure out exactly where to see if i could fix it, but i couldnt and managed to accidently rip out one of my usb ports, the tiny ribbon cable they use to connect the keyboard to the mobo, and rip off all my audio ports... so it was pretty effed by the time i was done.
