liteEditor

Hey,

This is the "offical" Thread for the first releases of liteEditor - the new Programming Tool for 3D-Gamestudio.
So for those of you who have never heard of it. What can you do with liteEditor?
  • Support for all programming-languages concering 3D-Gamestudio. No Matter if you are a Shader-Programmer, still working with WDL or "already" use C-Lite.
Additionally languages like html, ini, batch etc. are also supported.
  • Develop new code faster with fewer errors.
  • Quickly understand existing code.
  • Refractor existing code making it easier to read and cheaper to maintain.
  • Eliminate time spent searching by allowing instant navigation to any file, symbol or reference.
  • ...
I think most questions will be answered by the following pictures.
Please always download the most resecent version from http://www.dev-software.com
The current version is a prealpha version and is therefore unstable. I'm searching for committed testers.
Note that you need to install VC++ 2010 redist which can be found here: x64 x86

The current release version is 0.003 (prealpha).

Best Wishes,
Timo Stark

Just to let you know: the project is currently dead because:

1) I have too less spare time to develop on such a big tool atm
2) I do not see a point anymore in developing an editor for 3DGS due to decreasing size of community, and due to the point, that good debuggers & tools are available for c net (see wrapper) and c++ (engine sdk).
3) I do not see a point in developing tools for a engine nobody works on anymore (jcl) and features like local variable debugging are suspended for years.
4) there's too less interest from the community (do not want to spend another 1.000 working hours and 4 million lines of code, if nobdy needs it) - probably due to too less active scripters in the 3DGS Community

If anyone is interested in the source just let me know. It's structured pretty good (imo), though probably it'll be hard to understand for anyone, as it's just a very very big project (~2-3 GB).

I do not have any future plans atm, though there is of course a possibility that I'll work on the editor in a few months again - just because i worked on it for a too long time to let it die - but at the moment i just don't see a point.
Maybe if local variables debugging will be finally implemented laugh

Sorry to all, who waited for a new editor.

PS: This is not meant as an offend - i know the editor had currently a lot of problems with more or less complex scripts, though from my point of view: i would never ever program with an editor like SED, which is more or less just a standard text-editor. To successfuly accomplish a game / tool today it's just nessasary to have a good working debugger & auto Complete tool (as an absolute basic) - at least in my opinion..

Just to clarify: I never developed that program for money - just for the sake of having fun while programming. So a donation would not help me (maybe a donation of 20.000 dollar, but that would be sth. different tongue ).

Though even if this is probably not the most honorable reason to develop software, I just need the feeling that the amount of the work i put into the software corroaltes with the amount of people who will use the software. Due to the decreasing size of the 3dgs community (especially the active lite-c scripters. All good teams probably only have c++ / c# coders left) i do not see this coming.
Just to compare the editor with easyParticles 3 released some years ago.. There have been so many users in the testing phase of easyParticles (though this program dumped even more often in the beginning), that there was always this thinking: "hey someone will need this program" wink
As I'll never develop games with 3D-Gamestudio anymore, i can not even develop this tool for my own.

==> I worked on the tool for over one year just because I worked on it for such a long time laugh As additionally i do not have a lot of time currently i just wanted to let you know that there will be no further updates for the next months.

This is really sad. I still work with this editor and it's way better that SED, it just needs to have its bugs fixed.

I am interested in the source code.

If you ask me: It`s Conitec`s fault. Conitec isn`t interested at all in supporting great community tools. If I were JCL, I would have activly supported Intense-X, Shade-C and other great project like LED to improve them and then make them "official". Biggest problem of Gamestudio is that powerful tools are missing. JCL`s promises to work on new editors and an Android version doesn`t help. Because by no later than NOW is the point where such things should be here already. Conitec should work very quickly to save Gamestudio`s future. Acknex is a great engine and Lite-C is one of the best game programming languages. But the editors and the "PC-only problem" kills it all.

I'm uploading the source code right now. LED does not have any external dependencies besides those which are in the source folder, so you'll be able to compile led directly from the start without downloading any external libraries.
The Size of led is around ~350MB packed.. so please hold on..

@Rondion: I'm with you - but generally i think that the development progress of 3dgamestudio is just too slow.

Investing in Gamestudio: Now or never wink . JCL should hire at least two or three good full-time programmers for the editors so that he can concentrate on the engine (Android + console port).

@Rondidon :
No one prevents you from using some other free and commercial things ???
Essenthel
Just browse the videos on this page to know all tools adavanced features you would need !

And there are others (Unity, Torque 3D, NeoAxis etc ...) well known 3D engines having some great Editors and features also affordable for same price as A8 commercial.

I like A8, i have a project with it , bu i use one other engine ... Caus i can't wait years for things to come laugh (Vegetation, terrain, workflow, better World Edirot)

I stop, but there are solutions if you have a project requiring other tools or some missing technologies !
