Actually A8's perhaps not great in memory management -- loading assets in the background over several frames would be a very welcome addition to A8. As it turns out, add_buffer() is threadsafe, so A8 can do this as well. Yay! Looks great, but what Hulk (and other Marvel stuff) has to do with this little dude? I'd like to know this as well -- story-wise, what's the reason? Jibb

As it turns out, add_buffer() is threadsafe, so A8 can do this as well. Yay! I posted an example which uses add_buffer on the main thread while loading the stuff in the background. Saying "feature XYZ" doesn't work because one used function isn't thread safe is a lame excuse, you can always delegate stuff to the main thread. So yeah, that add_buffer is thread safe is good to know, but even if it would summon ugly fairies in the background would not be a showstopper for background loading.

Saying "feature XYZ" doesn't work because one used function isn't thread safe is a lame excuse Actually it's a great excuse. add_buffer() was the wrong function to be concerned about, for sure, but if "feature XYZ" is loading data in the background without interrupting game-flow, then the lack of thread-safety of a function is about as perfect as an excuse can get. add_buffer() doesn't matter because it's not the reason it's slow.
