I suddenly realized it did not fit to a single line in smaller resolutions, so i cut it a little.

OH. MY. GOSH.

Just beat Cave Story after playing it over this weekend. I had played it before, but never to completion.

As far as I know, I did almost everything right...

Click to reveal..
When Kazuma offered to fly me down to the surface on his dragon, I declined, and instead confronted the doctor to save Sue & company. I ended up fighting through four phases of the boss. I missed the fifth, though, because when Curly offered to trade her Machine Gun for my Polar Star, I accepted... and thus she drowned when I confronted the core. frown

But anyway. My mind is just blown right now. I feel like turning on my Wii and downloading the deluxe version right now...

That's not why she drowned. When there (prior to the boss battle, I think), you need to pick up a tow rope (you'll find it amongst the robot pieces at the bottom of the room where you fight the core). Then when she's drowning you can attach her to you. Then when going through the rapids, you should see a small cabin/room that you can go into. Go in there and put her on the bed. This is as far as I did last time, but there's more! There's a book shelf in there with information on how to drain water from robots. Follow its instructions.

Also, you need to get the booster 2.0, which you can only get if you don't go down to the professor guy when he falls past you (earlier on, I think). If you time it right, you can jump across the gap without the need for a booster.

Great game. I got the tough ending a very long time ago, and tried to do it again recently from memory, but fell just short.

Or you use to machine-gun to "fly". wink

Two more hints about what to do with Curly:

Dont leave her there after you drained the water.
Also you have to give her back her memories later.

Great characters, great story, great story telling, great optics/graphics, great/addictive gameplay, awesome soundtrack, and all works perfectly together. Thats Cave Story.

Just found the following on Joquan's website:
Quote:
Well, it's been a few weeks since Ancient Palace 1.0 Beta and Pheonix demo 3 were released. In addition to the plans we have for Ancient Palace and Pheonix, we are planning to work on something massive. We're hoping that it will be successful enough so that players won't just play a few minutes and leave. We hope to have it so players are playing it a lot, at the same time. We also want to add more player choice to this game than the previous ones we've worked on. As our statement goes, "The next gaming revolution!", we want to break the Shattered barriers of the gaming World, and being revolutionary in what we do. We want to do something that no other studio nor team has done. It may even be 3D!

Everything right up until that last sentence is just one long fuse connected to an explosive that goes off the second those last five words are read.

"It might even be 3D!" Wow. Get real.

Artistically use of mach banding:

There are actually no color gradiants for the cloud layers. They all use a single color (expect some antialias pixel).

Read a story about an ex-marine who was sawing down trees with a chainsaw when he was attacked by a mountain lion.

He was able to fend it off Doom style with the chainsaw, but in doing so a scientific discovery was made: chainsaws are not effective against moving organisms.

@Joey: I was actually a lot nicer than I wanted to be. Evidently none of my greater points survived the transition.

I like how people buy Radeons, but only in the same way I like how people buy Macs -- I don't want nVidia or Microsoft to have a monopoly. Besides that, I at least see some appeal in buying a Mac, but none in buying a Radeon.
