Convert a .mdl to another format? .fbx or .3ds? #380034

Hello,

I have two models, each with about a 150 frames of animation. They are .mdl files. I want to make them .fbx files.

My problem is getting them out of the .mdl format and into something more mainstream, so that I can go from there.

Any suggestions?

(I own 3ds max 2010, and have a free version of blender installed, if that's any help)

- Michael.

Using the fbx export of MED? - Sometimes the exporter is missed, but it is supposed to come with MED.

Hi.

It would be perfect to have a export option to .fbx, but I don't see one?

A screenshot of my med:

And the version of med I have:

Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks,
- Michael

Edit: If someone has the .fbx export working, would they mind converting these two small files for me, to .fbx?

Thanks. Also, my email is thegamedesigner [at] gmail.com

Hi, I'm posting again because I've made a lot of progress.

I installed the "Security Update for ATL Package
Microsoft Visual C Redistributable 2005 SP1 (x86)"

And I put the FBX plugin to the med_plugins folder (dll)
Now I can export to .fbx,

But none of the animations come with it. Do you know how to solve this? It's useless with no animations.

Maybe, fbx only knows bones animations and your animations are not bones but mesh animations?

Yes, they are mesh animations. I can export to .3ds, but it creates a separate file for each frame. Do you know how to make a single .3ds model out of those?

I don't know.
If you want to adjust the animations or add further poses, export the frames that you want to change and create further frames in the tool of your choice, and import them with "Append Frames from .3ds" in MED.

In case you need much and complex animations - don't even try it without bones and weights and IK and constraints.

No, I have the complete model as a .mdl, I want it to be a .fbx.

I don't want to go back to .mdl ever, it's one way.

I do Gamestudio and Unity development. A model I have in .mdl I want to use in Unity, which uses .fbx,

But I'm having a hard time getting it out of .mdl
