This is probably a very stupid question, but I feel the need to ask it anyway. Is it possible, in Gamestudios current form, to create a game as in depth story wise and visually as Dragon Age Origins but be as large as Mass Effect in spanning a large universe? I have this idea for a game which has caused me to look into video game design as a career and I was just wondering if it was possible to create it as a side project while I attend school. Any feedback would be appreciatted.

Thanks.

"side project while I attend school"
That size you described -> No
Dragen Age -> No
Mass Effect -> No

Thats just to show you the reality.

To answer more precisely, you can't do such a big project aside of other tisks in your life, only a big company with very experienced designers and programmers and producers is able to finish such a project.
You can do very much with GameStudio and programm and design things that gives you an idea how to do a lot of things which are required for such a game, as there are player movement, NPC AI, path finding, etc.
To finish a game project at all, you have to aim for a very small game - but this is the case when you are working with other engines, as well.

Ok, thanks everyone. I should have assumed as much. I guess I'll just save my idea and maybe one day if I can join a large company I'll toss it out then. Thanks again for the info.

whos to say you cant start it and show what your progress is to somone in the games world when you get there though?

theres no point not starting an idea just because its too big.

Everything in gamestudio is do able, weather you have the time and skill to do it is another matter.

Isnt it best to start something and get half way of doing it well then to not start it at all and say "I had the idea"....

Try it, attempt it, you might supprise yourself.

Theres no greator feeling in the world to create something and get it interacting in a virtual enviroment.

I say give it ago, even if it takes u 15 years to make atleast you can say "You did it".

nomis.

Very true nomis23uk, I'm still a beginner at game design. I enjoy making levels or worlds, and there is no greater feeling than being able to walk through your level and think,"I created this!"

The greater feeling is to get killed by the monsters you created, at your level laugh
"I got killed by a monster I made... In my own world"

All too true. It would give me something to show to people and might help me get my foot in the door. Thanks for the advice.
