in this small demo
you can see what i mean. there is heavy clipping on the models, even if i set clip_far to 100000 which i thought would be enough

Don't set clip_far too high. Otherwise you'll get problems with the z buffer resolution, which can be the reason for "heavy clipping".

No, I'm not in the office at the moment. I'll download it tomorrow if necessary. Check whether it's really z buffer clipping against something behind, like the sky box. The solution would be to increase the relative distances then.

hmm, it appeared with and without a skybox. the background is a skycube, but i'll look on. however it would be cool if you look at the demo so you really know how strange it behaves

I've downloaded your demo, but how can I see the clipping problem? All objects appear quite near, so there is no clipping involved at a first glance. Besides, this demo was created with a beta version that should not be used for testing any effects.

why?? i thought the beta should be used for everything to see if there are any mysteries behaviours

Only as long as they are not replaced by release versions. All betas have bugs - otherwise they'd made release.
