I do this in my editor. While adding vegetation I creating new meshes at run time. If the editing is done, the whole new mesh is saved into a MDL file.

Shouldn't this be done on the fly?

No, because it's much to slow to do it on the fly. After loading the saved MDL again, you can still add new mesh data.

@oliver2s: did you make the model saving by the sdk or used something available in the forum?

I just use file_ instructions of Lite-C, no SDK.

i improved the whole system. It's still buggy, unusable and needs a lot of performance, but hey, i've got about 6.5 Mio polygons AND waving gras.
I would like to use LOD, but i only have commercial
