Evoeon : 2D Game Builder

A free open-source WYSIWYG 2D Game Builder that is designed for JRPG, RPG and Casual Games. Platform, Adventure, and other styles of gameplay will also be included in later updates.

This is a hobby project that I have attempted many times. I plan to use it for my new 2D game designs that I am working on. The new framework is nearly complete and a working beta should be finished soon.

The editor is still in development and things are subject to change as it progresses.

Features Include :
* Build up to 250 2D levels in a single game project and switch between them with ease during development and gameplay.

* Create levels of 800x600 to 10000x10000 size.

* Create and edit up to 100 2D collision blocks, 100 Event blocks, and 100 Layered images per level with drag and drop placement.

* Call custom code easily through events that have autostart, touch and action triggers.

* Ability to edit and manipulate any collision, event or image placed on any level through event code.

And much more.....

For more information on the game builder and it's features, please download the Evoeon Help File below.

When the user makes a game how will it work, have you set it up to run it' own execute or will the player need to run it in junction with 3dgs?

Everything is left open-source so that the user has more options. nothing is already compiled and 3DGS will be needed to use Evoeon.

When the user creates something, they can then change a switch on the main script that will disable the editor and start up the project for test play or publish play based on settings. The user can then compile their project as they would any other 3DGS project.

With the free version of 3dgs this should have an open end for users.

How does the battle system work?

* I'll see what I can do to help users of the free edition.

Remember that things are still in early development. At the moment the beta is a 2D level editor that saves up to 250 levels and allows 2D collision and events to call custom code. It will be up to the user to decide how to build their game. (Details on completed features are listed in the Evoeon Help File Above)

I feel that all games should be different, especially when creating an rpg. If you look at engines like Rpgmaker, you will see that most games use the same menu code, battle system, etc. That is why I have not included a default system. Instead I am going to develop a 2D GUI Builder and 2D Battle Builder, which will allow drag and drop placement and other features similar to the level editor. This will give more freedom of creation without having to use or modify a default system.

One step at a time. I will continue to release new updates as I finish them.

I might can help on something. I developed a 2d animation system anyone can use. It uses multiple images to make a whole panel and work the animation. There are pieces for arms, legs, bodies and these pieces move to look like animation. I am using it in my current game and allows for a hand drawn look but with the versatility of 3d animation which allows for editing of animation.

The current animation editor has a face only a mother could love but the new one I am working on looks much better. I can upload a demo of one of my fsa in action.

I have plenty of art resources for multi-panel characters but I never created a system to use them. It would take some time to modify it and set it up for collision, but if it works good, it would give users more character options. A system like that also allows for easier character creation and customization than a single sprite can give.

Sure, sounds interesting. I would like to see a working demo of this if you have one ready.

nice project, very inspiring to make a 2D game! (but I'm making currently a 3D one nobody knows how long) I've loved so much 2D and isometric strategy games... and open source! sad that the android support is far from ready for 3dgs...

Foxhound it sounds pretty interesting.

for 2D character animation Fragmotion also can be used as it can export 3d model animation to images...

Thanks for your interest. In time I hope to improve each section and integrate options for as many genres as possible.

I am beginning to doubt the possible existence of an android port.

Here is a copy of the FSA, it shows a female soccer player, W-A-S-D movement keys. She does a victory animation when not moving.

Looking in the folder you can see that it shows multiple images, such as arms and legs.

Nice job. Animations are smooth. I like the idea of not needing player sprite sheets and each part can be changed to give character customization during gameplay. Looks great.
