Anomalies

Anomalies is now Greenlit and released:

Anomalies on Steam

Check it out if you get a chance!

A Fine Art Game
Anomalies is a generative art game. There are no levels, points or objectives. It is a "game" in the sense of being an amusement or pastime, an interactive piece of audio-visual, virtual sculpture, which one can tinker around with and explore.

Generate and Explore
You can randomly generate the anomalies, or you can change the anomaly's parameters manually with a series of sliding dials in order to tweak your creation. Use the controls to explore Anomalies, and the unique sights and sounds they generate.

Sights and Sounds
Anomalies are both audio and visual phenomena, the parameters that effect one effect the other. Some are strange and discordant entities, while others are symmetrical and harmonious. All the images and "songs" you hear in the demo video were produced through the program's algorithms.

Other Options
Using a built in screen capture button, you can collect snapshots of your handiwork. Use it as desktop wallpaper, or share it with your friends. If you want to revisit a favorite anomaly, you can also save it and load it again later. There is also an auto timer feature that cycles through anomalies automatically, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the show.

For anyone who tries it out, keep in mind that the intended format would be for this fine art piece to be displayed on a large screen, perhaps a projector, in a public place, like an art gallery. It's not really intended for repeat playing like most games, but something people will encounter and interact with on a more or less casual basis. I hope this makes sense.

I personally never play art games (just not my thing for games), but this could be an interesting universe for a (special) space game. You already have most of the graphics. Perhaps an escape game, where you must evade those tentacles and other twisted anomalies/abominations? Just putting some wild ideas on the table, maybe interesting to you, maybe not.
Maybe I am looking this a bit to much from a horror perspective grin .

Thanks for the feedback, actually, the anomalies idea formed out of my space exploration game "Star Explorers." It started with an algorithm I used to make outer space nebulas. I'm planning to use the same algorithm to make better nebulas in the space game, and maybe some kind of trees or alien tentacle things.

Sounds cool. Will it have some fightning or such than or is the concept more an exploration/adventure game?

Definitely exploration, but I want to create some scary environments too. I'm a big fan of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, if you' played those, you'll have a good sense of what I'm going for.

Here's a link to the other project "Star Explorers." It already looks a lot different than the screenshots on the link. I'm planning to post an update in a few weeks when I've completed the current phase of changes.

Definitely S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I know the graphics don't look anything like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (yet) but I've been focused on creating the basic gameplay and environment building aspects of the game. Once those are really working, I will begin updating all the graphics. I don't think I will achieve quite the same level of detail as STALKER series, but I definitely want to make it look unique and give it some nice atmosphere.

Now I remember, didn't notice (or forgot) both projects were yours. I liked that idea of the project, but I would recommend giving it a major facelift (but you probably already knew that).

Yes,
Star Explorers is getting some major graphic overhauls once I have all the basic functions running smoothly. For now, here's some further progress on Anomalies:

Anomalies has been Greenlit! I had almost forgotten about it, and since my other project "Star Explorers" was Greenlit, I have been focused on that. I'm not sure why it suddenly reached the threshold for Greenlight, maybe they made it easier? Anyway, I will be updating the showcase here, and I plan to release it in the next week or so.
