My dear god... I can't read the posts that are not in english, but has anyone noticed that it wasn't so long ago there was a demo put forth to test, a demo that had lots of lag and such...

Well template use (without much tweaking) may not produce a triplle 'A' title, but I gotta say, Rince, you have come a long way. A long way in a very short time.

If you'll continue to make games, and in those games you'll mess with the templates and add different features, I think the A6 community would be wise to keep an eye on you and your talents.

Some of your levels looked absolutely spectacular, (while some did not). But given what I last played as a demo, and what I see in the trailer, the word IMPRESSIVE doesn't do it justice. Especially considering the very strict use of just the templates. This also is a great example of what the templates are capeable of.

I myself, intend to pretty much use templates for my first project, though I'll spice up the models and the sprites etc... but the postential is awesome.

Great work, keep learning, you're doing great!

Wow, just Wow

Dear Jason,

I don't know what to say.. this is one of the nicest compliments I have ever received, so thank you for that. Some of the German users have also remembered the old demo, which really sucked. After I put the last demon online, I received a lot of feedback from you and other users and it really helped me a lot, though I didn't realize when I read them the first time. AT first, I felt embarrassed about the partially very harsh critics but now I must say that they were perfectly right.

I started tweaking the templates and I am in a process of complementing them with some of my own scripts to add some more effects and in order to have enemies with different characteristics. I learn a little every day and I am happy that my regular work gives me the chance to do so. Yet, there are so many wonderful projects around here that are fare better than mine.. so I'am really proud to be part of this community and I really want to make this game and all the models included a gift to this community for Xmas.

As I have found several interested publishers now (currently, I also work on a commercial game that will be released next year), my brother and I will be trying to make two games every year: one commercial game and a free game for this community that has given me so much.

I've got three more levels to built. Alle the weapons have been implemented. Right now, I am building the enemies (there will be at least 10 different enemy types) After that I'll insert the medipacks and ammo-Piskups, while I continuously create detail models. The last step will be to tweak the scripts a little more, while adding music, sound effects and ingame menus. When I have finished creating the manual (which won't be text file but will consist of an interactive programme made with game maker 5 - if I still have time to do so), the game will be released for free around christmas.

So, thank you once again for the friendly feedback, though I don't think, I deserve it yet.

Best regards
Rincewind

Hey Rince

Overall nice screenshots but in my opion all the screens are much to dark.
Example: http://hpbimg.hespagames.de/machine.jpg

Go into a one dark room. No switch some lights to on. What do you see? Even behind the places the light don't reaches it is not as dark as before (because the walls etc. reflects the lights). Now have a look at the screenshot. Do you see these thousands of totaly black areas? They are a bit unrealistic and they look very bad...
This is one of the big reasons why I don't think that theses screens are awensone (problem could be solved via ambient light)
They are good but not perfect.

Thanks Triple,

you are of course right. Several users have also mentioned this problem in this thread before. I am still working on the lighting and haven't decided on the final luminosity of some locations yet, as the light intensity depends on, what might happen there in the game (f.e. scripted events). Yet, this is a useful hint, because I might not have considered this aspect without such feedback.

Thanks again and best regards

Everyone's different, but when there are times you 'need' black areas (areas too far away even for ambient) or for whatever reason, then you're left with using more lights, because ambient will effect all the blocks.

Since my project is 'simple' I set the ambient to whatever looks best and create lights with the same numbers as that ambient.... then 1 remove ambient light again, and add lights with a very pretty large radius. But thats just me.

Dear Blue,

thanks.. I think I'll opt for adding more lights and see how it turns out. Good luck for your project :-)

Dear Bilbo,

what a pleasure.. haven't heard from you for a long time. No, I don't rock.. just a little sometimes, but it looks more like a hobbit dance or a drunken grizzly stomping around.

Of course I haven't given up on the fantasy project. I just put it aside for a little break, as I did with Antaris after having driven the project into a dead end street. When Antaris is finished I'll continue with "The Land fantastic" and try to make it better, using what I have learned in between.

Best regards

Hallo,

Hi all,

I just started inplementing the enemies, I have built so far. So here's a first game scene. The woman in front cries for help and sticks to the player, while the carcass in the background runs up the stairs to take you down.

Viele Grüße
Best regards
