If it does get stickied, it would be nice to turn off the edit time limit on the first post if the software allows it. That way I could add new stuff directly to the master list and simply post a "new stuff" post. I don't forsee having to add a lot to it, but the ecommerce and wiki programs would be nice additions.

Pardon me, but I forgot to look who moderates General Tools before I point this thread to here and since I can't moderate this forum, I can't stick this thread to the top. In the old forum software, there used to have a "Moderated By:" at the top but now it's at the bottom.

DivX is not really free.
You have to pay for the encoder and it is not free to give the codec away in a commercial project.
I can't find the figures, but there is a link to request more license info for commercial users.

They also have a niche license for indie filmmakers. This allows you to use it for free and still in a commercial capacity. I have no idea if indie game developer would fall under it or if the game license also includes indies.

... a very nice compilation. That should be published at the conitec sites.

Congratulation!

This is a nice list!
But I think the ultimate's unwrap3d site is invalid, or moved.. I keep getting the normal page not found error...
But here's a nice tutor ; web page
in case the site's up again...

It's still active. Maybe they had server trouble when you tried.

To anyone who plans on using Divx, be sure to take note of its license restrictions. You can use it for free for personal use or for indie filmmaking purposes, but if you want to use it in a commercial work to encode ingame cutscenes or even trailers/video demos for public viewing, then it looks like a fee is involved. Don't forget to include an installer to place the codec on the user's machine if you go with it. I wonder if they have a free usage policy for indie game development?

Don't forget to double check any freeware or open source software you use to make sure it is all right to use in commercial products.

@MOD: Please remove the "..free" part on the Divx line. Also, after Motek Entertainment, please add the follow. Please, be sure to include the URL tags:

TikiWiki - free
osCommerce - open source online shop e-commerce software...free

Finally, if it's all right with Conitec, perhaps making this a sticky thread would be beneficial for newcomers or as a quick reference to others.
