How would I create good looking, vast terrain for use in the A8 engine for an open world-type game?

Are outside terrain editors necessary? How to import one that is massive but does not slow the engine to a crawl?

Is MED good enough to create a terrain? I did not see any normal terrain sculpting tools that most engines have.

Thanks.

Mike

Hey,

there are many ways.
Any large Terrains are chunkable (set chunks in SED, "terrain_chunk") and it s also possible to use LOD (terrain_lod).

An Terrain edior is not necessary.
Although MED has a size Limit but you can create multiple terrains.
There is a tool (found in an AUM) that can connect terrains. Large terrains are very poorly slow handled in WED. Here you can use GED. GED is faster.
In WED and GED you can edit Terrains.
In GED you can also paint your Terrain.

I do not recommend Imports or outstanding Editors because values often wrong (or bad to set).

What is GED? I never saw that one before.

GED is included in Gamestudio and you find it in your Gamestudio folder. It is a ingame level editor and useful if you only use models and no WED blocks because GED can only display them but you can`t edit WED block geometry. GED was created by the developer "crew51". They also developed the game "Glider - collect n kill", a very polished and good game made with Gamestudio. Unfortunatly GED has never been free of bugs.. it is very unstable. I would call it beta. They discontinued it very early... but it`s usable if you build your game from stretch in GED I guess.
