Hello!

So, I'm returning to 3DGS after a while away. I'd purchased the A7 version a while ago but have long since lost any of the info/software. So I'm basically starting from scratch.

I know A8 uses rather outdated tech relative to what's out there now, but it's exactly what I'm looking for. I want to create games that are more in the DX8/DX9/early-to-mid 2000s in terms of art style. So, I won't be missing any bleeding edge graphics or what not.

However, I'm wondering how things are? I see the forums are still pretty active. I'm just curious how things are in terms of support? If I have questions (and there will be) about stuff I just can't sort out myself, I'd like to know there will be folks who can help out, etc. And of course, once I'm fluent enough with it, I can offer help as appropriate, too.

Is that still the case around here? Or are there maybe other communities/forums for such interaction?

Thanks!

Well, I guess the lack of reply after 48 views is all the answer I need?

That's kinda sad. Not entirely surprising, though.

As dead as dead can be i guess.

And newest GPUs are dropping dx9 support, if that's not the 1000th final nail in the coffin i do not know what is.

And absolutely no sign from Conitec of intending to update it in any way.

Otherwise, why are they even still selling it, then? Kind of messed up.

Really too bad they are not going open source if the engine is no longer being developed A8.

They cant because they do not fully own it, as far as i know.

Iam still playing around with acknex.
But for serious projects, i would advice another software.

Acknex umgibt uns...zwischen Dir, mir, dem Stein dort...

Yeah I use my own in-house engine for my serious projects.

Cheers,

WSI,

don't give up just yet. no-reply within 48 hours doesn't mean the engine is useless. Perhaps the users are busy with their own projects.

IMHO, I believe the engine still have value. In fact, within two weeks, I plan on uploading to YouTube a series of videos describing my experiences with the engine, along with the Torque game engine. Look out for Adventures in GameDev.

Prepare to be assimilated. Resistance is futile

Except that the engine is last updated 6.5 years ago, and the developer said there is no intention to develop a new version.

I don't think the engine is dead. There are certainly still many who still work with the engine.
I installed my TimeRacer Game in March 2022 on my website ( https://www.timeracer.ch/ ) for download.
And the game runs flawlessly on my PC.
The graphics and the resolution are clear for today's standard.
No longer up-to-date. But it was fun to work with this engine.
