Hello,

Can somebody help me with this model (the red line);

After numerous attempts I am verry frustrated.
I can't do it with torus (if you delete a part of the torus you can't extrude it anymore.
With cylinder and extruding it is verry hard to get the parts on the right spot (I use rotate on the extruded part, deforms the original cylinder, and move it to its proper place)

Why is there no bending tool like in Anim8or, that should make life much easier?

Regards,
Frits

Personally I would look into a thrid party modeling package. I use blender its free and very powerful oh and FREE It made my life a whole lot easier esspecially when it comes to organic models. I still use med on occassion but ussally just for fun or simple objects like crates ect...

Ventilator was very kind to us here and created an exporter for blender to mdl format which has made things very easy to get models from blender into med.

Just a suggestion.

Hi!
This could be done with ac3d, or other 3d prog. that has the plugin or the function extrude along spline, if you use a circle and a spline.

I could make that red line in MED within maybe 10 minutes. Without being able to set the texture scale upon creating the UV map, I won't easily be able to get it texture-mapped - I'd spend nearly twice as long texture-mapping it than just creating the shape as I have to manually position each and every vertex one by one (and the scale tool is very inaccurate).

Well, I made the line as depicted in your image. However, I noticed that your 21 on the bottom is practically the same size as your 32 and it causes things to not look as plotted on the image. Given the size ratios of the other areas, the 21 seems like it should be a 32 instead. My webhost is down for some reason so I can't upload the model I made.

Now that my website is back up again, here's the untextured model. Otherwise copying what you had in your graphic depiction, this is that model. All that remains is just texturing it....

Hiya.

I'm a bit confused...what are you trying to create? Is that a "top down" veiw of a sort of 'race track' or something?

It only took about 12 minutes to make it. I'm too, wondering what it is. If you want a higher quality version of it (with smoother curves), that's no problem. 360 faces, 362 vertices is about the finest I can get for that curve (which is so smooth, you can't see anything even at the closest possible with clip_near at 1). I used base 24 for this, the limit is 360. With the primitives size settings I've been mentioning a lot (and better size inputs, I get far more choices, including fitures I can't do such as a 16-gon). Double the base, the curves are 4 times finer (and spheres are 8 times finer). I can work wonders and model almost anything in MED, it's all the limitations, bugs, and annoyances that hold me back. I'm still wondering what it's supposed to be. A bent paperclip? It couldn't be a race track as that size is way too small for one.

Hello you all,

To answer your question what it is; it is the piece of a cable for an elevator which is over two wheels. The other parts are two straight tubes (cables) which can grow ore shrink and are attached to the lose ends of the model. (One attached to the elevator and the other one attached to a contaweight).

@ulillillia; thank you verry much for creating the model but as you can see in my drawing it has to have a diameter of 1.8 quants (it must be round not flat).
Still wondering how you made this, is it like I tried to do with a cylinder, extrude it, rotate it and move it into place? Please help me out here.

Regards,
Frits
