kind of. though the effect should be neither grainy nor flickering..
however, i am curious why you get sth. that you can actually SEE, while Lion_ts and me are just getting an invisible model part. please be so kind and post a link to the project... thanks.

I don't have the edited model anymore, but by using ent_mtlset it is sufficient to only fix to your script:

...
material wire{
skin1=front;
skin2=front3d;
flags=tangent;
}

material mtest{
effect="mtlly.fx";
}
...

starter mtls{
wait(10);
podL.material = wire;
ent_mtlset (podL, mtest, 6); // assign effect to skin #5
wire.skill1=float(sun_pos.x);
wire.skill2=float(sun_pos.z);
wire.skill3=float(sun_pos.y);
}
...

With the above fix you should see the grainy effect on the flaps of the second model.

hell, what is that? nothing changed for me here. it is still invisible. i just copied your script 1:1, tried it with fx on the skin and without - nothing.

if you could please set up a simple test cube with 2 skins, apply a shader to one of em and post it here, so i can check if it's my comp (unlikely, lion_ts has it as well), my 3dgs version (6.4 comm), my numbness or anything...

this is really frustrating me.

I think when you don't see it with your model, you won't have any better luck with a test cube. Are you seeing the grainy effect when you're applying it to the whole model? Can you give me your 3D card specs, and driver version?

works on the whole model.

3d card: GeForce 6800, 128MB, ForceWare 81.95, V-BIOS 5.40.02.12.61
DirectX: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

[edit] here's a shot from it when it covers the whole model, the specular value is much too high etc, but this is the pic how it should come out.

Hmm. I've now tried it on several machines here and found a PC where this effect is also not visible. I'll look into that. Please stay tuned.

Yes, there was indeed something wrong. I have now managed to get it to run on all PCs here. It was a double problem: First the bug in your script, and then an additional engine bug that only occurred on certain 3D hardware configurations.

This will be fixed in the next update, 6.50. Thanks for helping to identify and fix this bug.

umm.. when will that be? like the time from 6.31 to 6.4?
and, even more important: are there any work-arounds?

The only reliable workaround is separating your model in several models with different materials.

This probably isn't worth the effort as 6.50 is almost finished.
