I made a tree in Max... I have png files that are angeled onto the branches for the leaves... they are the leaves on a black background. How do I set the images for the leaves so that when they are in the game the black is transparent? GS out.

I don't know much about png format, but perhaps open the png file up in a program like gimp or photoshop, select the black background and erase it over a transparent background, save the image as tga, use the tga as a skin in med.

Yeah I got it guys thanks... However my tree model looks funny.. Some parts are real dark and others real bright... I had to set the ambient way down just to get it to look even half way decent. Anyone know why this is? GS out.

To avoid black outlines, look for alpha testing or improved overlay FFE in the WIKI

The screenshot has the shader applied but im not talking about the black likes anymore.. Look at the leaves, some are very bright, other very dark. What causes this to occur? GS out.

Has it the alpha-test shader or is z-test activated in the shader?

This is a normal problem when using flat polygon geometry for leaves. Think about it; they are just flat polygons, and the lighting method simply lights them like everything else, parts facing aways from the light will be dark...

There is in fact a way to change the lighting so this problem doesnt happen, to actually light the whole tree as a volume. It requires a simple shader. If you are interested let me know.
