holla,
how is it possilble that this simple scene drops to such a low fps when activating the stencil buffer? i dunno, but could it be that there is somewhat wrong?

100fps:

5fps:

i mean, this scene is nothing too complex .. or am i wrong ?

Every scene can be constructed in a way that it renders very slow. So I can't specifically answer whether there's something wrong or not.

what could be the "bad" pint here. i place randomly trees, stones and flowers. scale and rotate them randomly and thats all. any advise?

Try to remove the stencils of the flowers, then of flowers AND stones and check the impact on the framerate.
Maybe this can help to find the cause of the slowdown.

Not the answer you want, but: probably

Stencil shadows are calculated on the CPU, not the GPU. Normally I'd say that you should use stencil shadows for moving actors only, and only use static shadows for your forest.

Theoretically you can also display a huge number of dynamic shadows without frame rate loss, but they need to be calculated on the GPU then.

What about a VAR then to make dynamic/stencil shadows rendering on GPU instead of CPU? Would be kinda nice.

but i create the forest randomly and the sun_angle is changing, too, so i cant use static shadows, right?

are you going to move the shadow system to the gpu?

Yes, I plan to add a shadow mapping shader to the mtlFX template. This has also the advantage over stencil shadows that the shadows are smooth.
