In A5 there was a .x exporter, it was a USEFUL feature, but it seems to have vanished. Any statements?

Your A5 version had an X exporter? Well, not from us. Otherwise it had to be a miracle. And miracles, sorry, are not reproducible.

I have A5 running right now....
I can say there is no .X exporter

The Exporter includes:
Q1 MDL
MD2
AQM
Frame to ASC
Model to ASc
Frame to 3DS
Model to 3DS

Import includes:

import apphended verts: ASC,3DS
import apphended frames ASC, 3DS
import frame names from text

OPEN includes:

Model Files *.MDL
Model Files *.MD2
Model Files *.AQM
Terrain Map *.HMP
A4 Level File *.WMP
A5 Level File *.WMP
QLE Level Files *.qle,*.map
Microsoft Model Files *.X // this is the probally what you remembered...
Height Map Image *.bmp,*.pcx
256x256 Raw File *.raw
Relief File *.bmp,*.pcx

one question to the *.x IMporter though:
i have an x-file exported via Xport for c4d, it contains an animation (bone anim) which is not read by MED. why? it's and ascii x file, the anim lines look like

I don't know the X file format details either, but there is a simple method to find out whether your X file has a valid format. Just run it in Microsoft's DirectX model viewer. If it's ok in the viewer, it will also import in MED, otherwise not.

I agree that its is very useful to export using md2 format especially if you are using milkshape and the free LythUnwrap programs.

Otherwise with many of the low end modelers it becomes more difficult to import "simple models" which most of use use.

Though things are changing with modeling programs, models becoming more sophisticated I think the md2 format is still useful for export for some time.

is there a way to get it, besides downloading the 506 MB SDK?
