Onyx Engin3 (tm)

Hello. This is a screenshot taken from a early test of my upcoming shader engine: 'Onyx Engin3' (tm). Onyx adds several state of the art rendering techniques found in such high end rendering software as 3ds max and Maya. Onyx will be free with all versions of Gamestudio except for use in published products. This image is about 6 months old, at this time i would not like to release recent images as to protect the engine's unique structure. Onyx Engin3 (tm) will also feature per-pixel realtime shader effects allowing individual pixels to have unique qualities. I will release more features in the near future. -Foxfire, Onyx Software-
Note: some models/textures are from public domain and are now receiving credit.
Onyx,Onyx Engin3,Engin3, and the Onyx logo are trade marks of Onyx Software.

Ah, so using (r) would mean registered trademark?

Hey there,
I suppose i should have explained more on the screenshot and I will release movies and playable demos soon to demonstrate the engine. The photo shows realtime "glitch" shading and depth-of-field shadow rendering. i will agree with you though, it is not that impressive, however, this is a very old screenshot. You can notice how the shadows become less defined as they both escape the view and light source, BUT instead of becoming lighter in shade, they gain blur. In addition, the walls closest to us are being rendering using a 'glitch' technique, you can notice small deviances in the pattern which are not in the texture (I will release a source demo, you can see for yourself). This is similar to multi-texturing but does not require extra memory or textures, thus saving time and resources AND looks better when dynamic effects, lights, etc are introduced. Until i release a demo, sit tight; I truly have a product that introduces new functionality into games, thus, in my words, revolutionary. -cheers, foxfire-

Hey,
I fully understand your view, however, if you read my earlier replies, you would notice that "ONYX WILL BE FREE" for almost everyone here (obviously i will charge for commercial use). I am not asking for anyone's money, time, or thought, I simply offered a excellent product for free to the Gamestudio community. If you don't want to use the engine when it comes out, don't \:D
For others who do, i understand your scepticism, however, it WILL BE FREE so don't get caught up in the "'astronomical' prices " as that is only if you wanted to use the engine in a product that you made money from.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, foxfire

Hey!
I've decided to NOT release a tech demo for Onyx \:\(
...Because instead im going to release a SMALL VERSION FOR FREE!
I will release it sometime between now and next month.
The "small version" will feature the decal and shader managment interface which allows users to easily manage hundreds of decals anywhere on the map with ease. The engine automatically line the decals up with their "parent" walls/objects and preloads/dumps decals to save RAM.
In addition, the "small version" will feature 3 unique shaders:
-A detail-mapping shader; supports dynamic shadows, shadow-maps, and multi-texturing/decals (and lights, specular highlights, etc.)
-A hybrid shader; shades map geometries with bump mapping AND detail mapping. Supports shadow mapping, decals, etc.
-A water shader; shades flat terrains/models as fluid. Supports obstructions, real-time reflections, and Onyx physics.
All shaders are easily adjustable via WED and are compatible with 8 dynamic and infinite static lights.
I will add some new pictures soon as well!
cheers! Mike

how do you do these infinite static lights for bumpmapping?

Good question actually. All of these shaders use the A7's default shadowmap to calculate bumpmapping direction in addition to dynamic lights which influence reflection and flare effects.

Hey,
I suppose i should also include the destruction code, however, it requires the main part of the engine which i really don't want to realease. However, i will include a short clip of this in action and a brief introduction to the technique Onyx uses to create such realistic effects.
