Iridium Screenshots

Here are the latest screens of a simple test level I made being rendered with my Iridium Engine and the A7 engine. All lighting is 100% dynamic and requires no pre-calculations of any kind.

There is also no constants used in rendering - for example, the areas of shadows that are brighter or darker are calculated in real-time based on real-time radiosity lighting from the sun.

You can also see physical volumetric lighting and HDR tonemapping with automatic exposure control.

The demo runs at 120 fps at 1024x1024 resolution on my machine (see my signature for details).

oh, and I'm aware that the shadows and bump mapping suck - I didn't bother blurring them or adding real bump mapping because I was only focusing on the global illumination for this demo. There is also no specular term.

hehe, everyone wants better shadows - I should have guessed. Ok, I'll add better shadows for this demo - I have to add a bunch of code to interpolate between shadow maps though. I'll use PCSS, anyone have a problem with that? tongue

oh, and it only runs at 1024x1024 because thats what I chose so I could run it in windowed mode and program while running it. I already made the resolution variable for the demo.

I have been following Iridium topics for some time now and I'm looking forward to seeing it finished and put to action. It will surely be a very good piece of software.

There is just one thing that I can't understand. Lots of people are criticizing you for your over-advertisement of the product but I don't find that to be much of a problem. What I find to be the biggest problem is your lack of ability to spot visual errors: You should be able to see that shadows on screens are somewhat bad.

It's like this: you could have ultra, super-cool car but if you fail to see that your on a bad, bumpy road everyone will think your car are not stable and not worth the money you paid.

If you can't spot visual irregularities please call few art-oriented friends before you post screens and ask them what's wrong. That way you will have really good screens that everyone will find appealing and your hard (and very good) work will be equally awarded.

Yes I know, but saying that shadows suck doesn't really cut it. It just crashes the entire experience.
If he wanted it this way (with bad shadows), he should have come up with a better camera angles. Pictures 3 and 5 just need cropping to 1/2 (to remove the bottom half) and things would look much better.

...
I'm not really criticizing the engine or his work, just the promotional side of things.
He could have much, much better feedback if he get that promo-part right.

it's my birthday - yay! =]

oh, I added some nice shadows and I started the DLL part of iridium! I had a hard time getting directx stuff to work with gamestudio but I made some changes to avars.h and dx9.h so now I can read video card caps like support for mrts and maximum supported texture size for auto-configuring iridium! I also found a way to change driver settings (for example Nvidia's - can enable Hardware Ambient Occlusion, Sli configuration, Optimizations, etc)! That makes me happy (yes, the strangest things make me happy XD )

Anyway, happy birthday to myself and I hope you are all looking forward to developing with Iridium (for FREE). Just add fast graphics cards to your shopping list! ;D
