Ancient Gems [graphic demo]

Hi,
I want to show you what I was working on for the last weeks.
It´s a graphic demo wich demonstrates some effects (as such a demo usually does tongue ):

-spherical lightsources defined through position and radius (instead of pointlights wich have no radius)
-cook-torrance highlights for the stones around the spheres to give them a metallic look
(I removed the spec part of the ground for performance and compiling time reasons)
-soft drop shadows on the ground casted by the stones (only one stone circle per light)
-relief mapping for the ground wich also influences the depth value
->ground is depth based blended with the other objects of the scene to give the
illusion of bumpiness when the spheres intersect with the flat ground plane
-the relief mapping mixes a tiled texture with a 2nd non-tiled one
-detail normal- and colormapping
-HDRR
-tone mapping with adaptation over a period of time
-multible split-pass gauss-blurred HDR-based laugh Bloom
-support for red/cyan stereo anaglyphes rendering
-support for crosseye rendering using rotated grid supersampling
to scale down the two fullscreen RTs

I also tried to add support for lightshafts but recognized that the incorrectness
of the effect can be seen when one of the stereoscopic modes is used.

The movement of the spheres, stones circles, camera and the color change of the lights is proceduraly and initiated with some random values.

Explanation for the cross eye effect:
http://www.triplespark.net/render/stereo/pview.html
(probably there are better somewhere)

Here are some more shots:
spherical lightsources diffuse only

spherical lightsource specular only

glossy ground

slight specular for the non-tiled ground texture

Here is the rest of my pics hosted - look for those wich start with 'Ancient' and 'spLights' (thx slin for sharing your webspace)

hope you like my little piece of art wink

regards,

EDIT1: runs with 30 fps on my GTX285 with all effects (cross eye)

EDIT2: I finally added two videos to my youtube-channel

Simply woooow! This looks amazing!
This could be some special effects from a movie.
I must admit that I only understand half of what you've written above, though. wink
Screen number 4 is my favourite, the "glossy ground" is great, too.

Edit: The obvious question: how fast is it?

Not that fast since the spherical lightsources kill a lot of the fps^^
You can not even compute the diffuse part of one of them without pixel shader version 3. XD
Eventually it runs with 30 fps on my GTX285 in crosseye mode and with 50-60 without stereoscopic rendering tongue

did you do this in A7??? "HOLY COW!", is the appropriate response.....is that displacement mapping as well????

Everybody Poops.
here are some tutorials I made.

This looks so great -> it looks so real, so real!1!1!oneoneeleven

The ground is just a textures? it looks like it haves millions of polygons...

So beautiful...

just a question: are my eyes wrong or are there blue and red lites on the last pic?

@Brain: it is relief mapping - means that the texture is just view position dependend strached to give the illusion of bumpiness but I also do that with the depth value so that I can blend the spheres with the ground together without loosing this illusion when they intersect each other wink

@Rei: do you mean the red/cyan effect with 'red and blue' lights? You can use your red/cyan 3d glasses should you have some, but tha really kills the colors. The cross eye pictures are the better choice imo - just cross your eyes and learn to see 3d using your flat screen wink

thx for the kind words! laugh

Nothing new, is it?
Even though, with at least ChrisB and JulzMighty and probably BoH_Havoc we´ve got some more shader kings, able to create amazing stuff wink

However, you know that I love that project, Hummel tongue
Otherwize I already would have deleted the images from my webspace wink

The cross eye view works really nice. Luckily you did not use parallel view as I always fail on this one laugh
