(5) Grid Box Demo ... All about it

In the beginning we sarted out to modify a Level of the Scify-Demo.

That were the days of A6. Through the years we kept on working, going through big change of the *.wdl-code. We had to adjust the whole project several times, according to the different engine updates. Finally we changed it to Lite-C. Once a modyfied Scify-Demo, it became its own "face" and Level-Arcitecture and what all belongs to it.
Keeping on developing, there are now lots of folders of content for models, grafix, sounds and code.

Today the latest Releasae Built runns under A8.30 PRo and uses a Depth Of Field (DoF) -shader, taken from Shade-C collection.

Because of all the particle effects, the framerate of some Level-Parts went down intensly.
To get enough frames (25fps) for FRAPS recording, I used our Notebook (Core2Duo CPU@2.1Ghz with a Nvidia GeForce 8600MGs).

Now there was the time to come to an end, to release the first Trailer. Otherwise it might have been never ended, since there always come up new ideas. And one day, after some years it has to be done.

You really think anyone would waste his precious lifetime staring 5 times at 5 splashscreens with 7 seconds each that cant be skipped?
That's three minutes of splashscreens. Seriously.

Okay.. i´ve no clue what this should be?

A Shader Demo?
The textures are just dirty as hell, the camera can watch through doors if you stay in front of one and turn around, the moevemnt is.. hovering..
what the hell is this?

I am disappointed, too. Don't be frustrated by all the bad responses, here are some things you can do:

  • Remove those splashscreens. You don't need a splashscreen anymore and if you just want to put some credits, do it with a small translucent panel in the lower right that tells about Shade-C, your team and whatelse.
  • Connect all 5 demos. Making 5 exe's is pointless. Seriously.
  • You want to establish a nuclear fallout emergency scenario? Then don't try to play this female voice over and over again and make the things reasonable. A particle effect is nice, but if it is "just" there, it makes no sense. Nonsense stuff is nonsense.
  • You have "XXX" texts on your sprites... well... is this an annual radioactive celebrity hooker meet-n-greet or what? smile The term "XXX" rises associations with hardcore adult imagery. Or live action. Or both. Hm... radioactive intercourse.
  • In one room there are floating ladders!
  • I don't get it. Or is it just me? Why are there grid boxes? What are those. I can understand if you try do train your modeling skills by making variations of the same model. But seriously. Grid boxes? That doesn't catch me.
  • The most disappointing thing was that there is NO ... I repeat: NO interaction. There are terminals or floor decals with glowing signs, like "X" or "V"... I pressed "X" and "V" ... but nothing happens! This is bad.
  • Releasing a tech demo and writing "Dont change the resolution! It will break everything!" is not so professional. I also didn't understood the "HD" thing. AND: why were the "not-HD" demos in windowed mode? When I press ALT + ENTER (which doesnt change the resolution!!!), I got a distorted view. What happened???

Thats it. Please understand that this is not meant to bash your work or to give you a bad reputation. These are just the small little thoughts of a small little guy who thinks "wtf", concerning all the hype you made in the first post.

Regards,
-Christian
