At first I only create the top surface, then in another loop I fill visible holes (by checking an array).

The same scene as above renders now at 84fps (same speed without mipmapping). I reduce the entity count by merging nearby cubes of the same height.

Now you can build/ place cubes, too, see the "tree" on the right-hand site of the picture.

EDIT: BTW nice home, Sid! I've created a home on a floating island, too, but it sucked to gather resources.
