Also, the dizzieness is most likely caused by the head movement in the video. So there shouldn't be a problem when you're the one who's wearing the headset (unless vr headsets in general tend to make you dizzy).

@Reconnoiter: Personally, I think attaching a 3d menu to one of the controllers is a very good way to implement a selection menu.
It has to be somewhere in 3d space, you cant just stick it into a corner of the screen, and with this method interaction is pretty intuitive while not getting into your way (like a static menu obstructing your view).
