After speaking with Thunder via PM it appears he was looking at the wrong stats.

However its worth exploring the bandwidth: An average person exchanging about 40bytes per second in a chat channel, about 5Mb an hour.(approx 2.5Mb of your upload bandwidth)

If you clocked up 8 hours a day for a month you would use 0.5Gb of your bandwidth. I doubt your connected that much....are you?
